Martin Wingfield (via CobWeb/3.1 planetlab2.tamu.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Wingfield joined the National Front in 1976 and rose quickly through the ranks, winning election to the National Directorate in 1980 and became editor of the National Front News for a time, beginning in 1983.
His progress was not completely smooth however, as he was briefly expelled from the party by John Tyndall after attempting to take control of the Sussex branch of the party from Tyndall's father-in-law Charles Parker by publishing a dissident paper the Sussex Front.
In his role as editor of NF party organs Wingfield was charged under the Race Relations Act in 1985 and, after refusing to pay a fine, was imprisoned.

The first party members heard about this was when Martin Wingfield, the candidate's election agent and a key party propagandist, happily recited the story in the February issue of the BNP newspaper, The Voice of Freedom.
Wingfield took great delight in using this as evidence of the party's new moderate image.
The Wingfield affair comes after the formation of the party's Ethnic Liaison Committee, the admission from Burnley BNP that the Holocaust happened, Griffin's new anti-Nazi stance and the softening of the party position on homosexuality.

 British Neo-Nazi parties
This result was largely due to the candidate Martin Webster's own adopted 'chummy' persona for the campaign as "Big Mart", and due to the NF flooding the areas with hired coachloads of supporters over the four weeks of the by-election at the party's expense.
Front deputy leader Martin Webster claimed that the activities of the Anti-Nazi League played a key part in the NF's collapse at the end of the 1970s, but this claim runs contrary to events: the Anti-Nazi League collapsed in early 1979 amid claims of financial impropriety.
The opposition NF Flag Group contained the traditionalists such as Ian Anderson, Martin Wingfield, Tina 'Tin-Tin' Wingfield and Steve Brady, who ran candidates under the NF banner in the 1987 general election.

Flag Group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
At this time Andrew Brons attempted to engineer a reconciliation between the Flag Group and the British National Party with a view to launching a 'Nationalist Alliance'.
The move came to nothing however as Wingfield, who had a long-standing grudge with John Tyndall denounced the paln in The Flag, the party newspaper.
As the 1980s drew to a close the Flag Group managed to regain control of the NF as the radicals drifted away to the International Third Position and the Third Way.

In opposition, the NF Flag Group contained the traditionalists who even ran candidates under the NF banner in the 1987 general election.
By 1990 the Political Soldiers had drifted away into such groups as the Third Way (UK), and the ITP International Third Position, leaving the Flag Group to take control, with leadership passing to Ian Anderson and Martin Wingfield.

Following the article on the BNP I received this e.mail from Mr Martin Wingfield, editor of the BNP's own newspaper.
You are normally 'bang on the button' with your comment, but referring to the BNP as "Griffin¹s bunch of assorted racists, anti-Semites and goons" is out of date and now inaccurate.
I'm sure Mr Wingfield is well able to answer your question himself, but he might have forgotten Ken Livingston....

SEARCHLIGHT ON A SEARCHLIAR: Gable's Contribution To "Neo-Fascism In Europe"
Again, according to the more reliable Martin Walker, "...some 20,000 people went through the NF in 1974, the stable membership was about 12,000, and the bulk of them did little more than vote." (19)
The only ones seem to have been Martin Webster, and Gordon Brown who was on the other side in the 1975 split (as indeed were Tyndall's old "Nazi" colleagues Denis Pirie and Peter Holland).
As is Martin Webster, who, presumably would have been purged in a latter day Night of the Long Knives, if Column 88 is what Gable claims it is. If it really exists at all.

In 1985 (I think) Martin Wingfield, the current editor of the BNP’s paper Voice of Freedom was fined £1500 for writing in his local council election address: “Coloured immigration has brought strife and decay to Britain’s inner-city areas.
Wingfield chose not to acknowledge the Court’s ruling and refused to pay the fine, stating that we had a duty to make a stand against such creeping tyranny.
This makes it hard for true supporters of free speech to back people like Wingfield, as we all know he is only standing up for HIS free speech.

BNP leader Nick Griffin tries to sideline previous leader John Tyndall and blame him and his followers for the BNP's hardline neo-Nazi image.
However, long-standing BNP activists are apparently unhappy with Griffin's support for Martin Wingfield, who published a story in the BNP's newspaper Freedom this February about a BNP candidate who publicly stated: "I'm the grandfather of two mixed-race children who I love dearly."
Defending the article Griffin argued that the BNP should use such material publicly in order to make them appear 'normal'.
