Martin A. "Marty" Sklar is The Walt Disney Company's international ambassador for Walt Disney Imagineering, the subisdary of the company which designs and constructs the Disney theme parks and resorts across the world.
Sklar was formerly vice president of concepts and planning for the company, before being promoted to president, and then eventually taking the position of vice chairman and principal creative executive of of the company before his current role.
Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Sklar was a student at UCLA and editor of its Daily Bruin newspaper in 1955 when he was recruited to create an 1890s-themed newspaper, The Disneyland News, a month before the theme park opened.

Sklar became an officer of WED Enterprises (as Walt Disney Imagineering was then called) in 1974, when he was appointed vice president, Concepts/Planning, a role in which he guided the creative development of Epcot at The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Before moving to Los Angeles in 1986, Sklar was twice elected (1969 and 1973) to the Board of Education of the Anaheim City School District and served two terms as board president.
Marty and his wife, Leah Sklar, are among the five founders (including the late Sharon Disney Lund) of the Ryman Program for Young Artists, named in honor of the quintessential Imagineering artist Herbert D. Ryman, who created the first visual depiction of Disneyland for Walt Disney.

Besides, were you to ask anyone at WDI what Sklar is best known for these days, it wouldn't be his creative input or his sense of Disney company history.
Now the general rule of thumb at Imagineering is that -- given that Marty can sometime be a bit crotchety when he's awaken -- that it's always the person with the least seniority in the room that has to wake up Mr.
So -- as Marty sleeps -- they quietly slip out of the conference room, rush back to their offices at Imagineering and quickly change out of their clothes.

I think Ray Bradbury should be interviewed on every DVD that he's even remotely interested in.
is one of those title-tells-it-all featurettes, chatting with (obviously) Marty Sklar, VP of Walt Disney Imagineering.
Sklar provides more memories of Walt and gives a good comparison between Walt Disney's vision of EPCOT and the park today.

Granted Sklar's been the man pressing for Disneyland to get its dilapidated classics back in the top-notch condition thety deserve before the park's 50th anniversary in 2005.
