Marty Wilde was born Reginald Leonard Smith in Blackheath, London, England on April 15th, 1939.
Marty lived in Greenwich until he and his mother moved to different parts of the country to follow Reg senior who was a Sandhurst-trained Sergeant and was posted to Devon and then on to Capel Curig North Wales to help train new army recruits for the war effort.
Marty Wilde formed a group with some of his local friends called Reg Smith and the Hound Dogs, and he and the group would eventually play with some success at local gigs in the South of England, until eventually, bit by bit, word got around about this new band.

Marty Wilde is one of the original British Rock 'n' Roll pioneers.
As far as Marty was concerned the Fifties were the most exciting times, with the sensational arrival of Rock n Roll and the whole pop culture that came with it.
Marty co-wrote the song with his son, RICKY, and together they have written many of the songs recorded by KIM on 10 subsequent LP's, during which time Kim has been responsible for single and album sales in excess of 10 million and 5 million respectively.

Wilde was still at the top of his game when, while appearing at Birkenhead in 1959, he was approached by a Liverpool singer-guitarist-songwriter named Ronald Wycherley, who was trying to get some original songs to Wilde and Parnes for their consideration.
Wilde was enough of a star to perform in the London production of Bye Bye Birdie, but by 1963, when the Liverpool sound came along, he was effectively regarded as part of music's past.
Meanwhile, Wilde himself never entirely gave up performing, and in the 1990s enjoyed a fresh wave of interest in his music in England, as audiences began to take stock of their surviving music heroes.

By the end of the week, Reginald Smith had become Marty Wilde, he'd had his teeth straightened, visited the best tailor in Saville Row, been fitted for hand-made shoes, shirts and ties, appeared at the exclusive Winston's night club and had had lunch with Josephine Douglas.
Marty's hit records started in mid '58 with the release of "Endless Sleep", and by the end of '59, he'd charted with "Donna", "A Teenager In Love", "Sea Of Love" and "Bad Boy".
By the early to mid-sixties, Marty had faded into obscurity, though he kept popping up on the odd TV and radio show and in the 70's, he even undertook to appear on some oldies rock 'n' roll package shows.

Marty Wilde was propelled in the "all-round entertainer" direction, which in some ways was unfortunate.
By then, Wilde had established himself as a chart regular with four more UK Top 10 hits during 1959, the first of which was his cover version of 'Donna' by Ritchie Valens, released in the spring of that year.
The effect of Marty on TV screens throughout the country was quite overwhelming and brought forth avalanches of fan mail, telegrams, phone calls, etc. He immediately became a regular featured artist on this show and later on made many appearances on ABC TV's fabulously successful 'Oh Boy' programme.

In the days of steam radio, those chaps at the BBC were rather unwilling to let American rock 'n' roll and RandB music loose on an unsuspecting British public.
The album is quite a mixture and on Marty's last hit from '62 "Ever Since You Said Goodbye" the whole feel is very Cliff and the Shadows and the Bobby Vee sound comes in between with "Rubber Ball" and "Teenage Tears"
Although without the angst of Fury Marty's output is nonetheless very worthy of a place in British Rock 'n' Roll history.
