 Charm of Hokkaido
Thirteen waterfalls line up stepwise in a section 2,258 meters wide and 272 meters high.
The first one is 18 km upstream of the Maruseppu River.
In 1961, it was chosen as one of the hundred most famous tourist sports in Hokkaido.

The Mikasa Railway Memorial Hall in Hokkaido is on the site of JNR Horonai Station which was closed in 1987.
The first railway in Hokkaido ran from here to Otaru Port in 1881, carrying coals from the important Horonai coalmine.
Part of the old logging railway at Maruseppu Forest Park in Hokkaido is now a tourist attraction and runs a 762-mm gauge Amemiya No.21 dating from 1928.

We’ve got a small bi-lingual atlas of Japan and a Smapple (detailed map) of Hokkaido in Kanji which we can’t read.
The way in to Sapps was well sign posted though so we don’t think it’ll be a problem.
We also get a glimpse of Sapporo as we leave and relaise that the delicious smell is smog.

 Accretion tectonics and geodynamics of Kamchatka-Sakhalin region
The Sea of Okhotsk region (Figure 1) includes, besides marine basin, bordering land area, because the most part of tectonic units of this sea frame is traced to shelf.
The marine basin is bounded by the Kurile island arc to the south, by Kamchatka to the east, by the Asian continental margin to the north and northwest and Sakhalin and Hokkaido to the west.
There are apparently similarities between the geology of Sakhalin and Hokkaido indicating that the main tectonic units of both islands constitute uniform accretionary system.

 Scenery of Kitami/Abashiri in November
We usually have much snow at this time, but the weather was warm and fine when we were in Hokkaido this year.
Since the scenery was so impressive for me, I also tried to take more photos from the southern observatory.

My school won the Hokkaido Kendo competition and came third in all of Japan.
In Hokkaido this figure is over 20% and the problem is much worse in rural areas.
My immediate cultural response, which is kinda weird for an armchair anarchist, is that they need to develop more of an environment of creativity, original thinking and entrepreneurialism, and completely overhaul their school system.

We went on a road trip around Hokkaido and stayed with her family friends.
Ange, Michaela, Jessie and I are going away, driving around Hokkaido to Sounkyo/Daisetsuzan National park, the largest national park in Hokkaido, and going to some onsens.
