He is a former professional football coach, in the CFL as head coach of the Montreal Alouettes (1973–1977), and in the NFL as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs (1978–1982) and the Buffalo Bills (1986–1997).
Levy began his professional sports coaching career in 1969 as kicking teams coach for the Philadelphia Eagles before joining George Allen's staff as a special teams coach for the Los Angeles Rams in 1970.
Levy, the winningest coach in Bills’ history, recorded a 112–70 regular season record and was 11–8 in the playoffs during his eleven seasons with the Bills.

When Marv Levy was hired to take over a troubled franchise from an overmatched Hank Bullough in the middle of the 1986 campaign, the prevailing thought was that Levy was coming in on an interim basis and the Bills would hire a permanent replacement after the season.
Levy's appearances at the podium were always delivered with respect to the audience behind the microphones and notebooks, with the understanding that the respect flowed to the people who eventually read or listened to his words.
Levy's trademark references to historical events were a constant reminder that after all the allegories to war or human conflicts, football is just a game played between grown men that should be treated as such.

Marv and company aren't heralded as some sort of offensive guru's and they're certainly not cutting edge but they know how to put together a team that does the basics well and that's what we need.
I agree that Levy basically HAS to have learned from his time in and out of the league and I believe Jauron has from his failure in Chicago as well.
Levy's wide-eyed idealism may seem great on the surface, but I wonder if it'll actually be successful in the cut throat, throw your momma from the train if it benefits you world of the NFL.
