Marvel Age - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marvel Age is an imprint of Marvel Comics intended for younger audiences, including children, established in 2003.
The other titles that were not part of the Marvel Age continuity, including Emma Frost, Runaways, Mary Jane and Spider-Girl, were excluded from the new imprint (the individual issues of Emma Frost, Runaways and Spider-Girl had never used the Marvel Age trade dress anyway).
Marvel Age was also the title of a promotional comic book-sized magazine from Marvel Comics in the 1980s.

The MARVEL AGE of COMICS (the 60's)
With characteristic hyperbole, but also considerable accuracy, editor Stan Lee dubbed this period "The Marvel Age of Comics." In fact, the term has been adopted by comic book fans all over the world and is still used today to describe the 1960's.
Marvel's first editor, Joe Simon, theorized that kid companions like Captain America's Bucky were important because they gave the protagonist someone to talk to; Spider-Man talked to himself.
Spider-Man, despite the fact that he was not originally intended to star in a series, became the epitome of the radical innovations that characterized The Marvel Age.

 Decathlon (Marvel Age character)
(Marvel Age I#16) - As he trained in a gym, the young athlete was approached by a group of corrupt Russian government officials and doctors.
According to Marvel Age #15-16, Mark Lerer, the assistant editor of the book, was trying to break in as a real writer at Marvel.
That we don't know the full details of his story is, really, where a lot of this guy's trouble is. I didn't refer to him as Decathlon in the body of the profile because there was no logical point in the story as we know of it for him to adopt that identity.

Revolving Door of Death 01 - The Human Torch (Jan 1998)
One reason may be because, unlike DC Comics, Marvel did not buy out (or sue and forclose on) entire lines of comics characters, such as the acquired properties of Fawcett, Quality, Charlton, and legions of others they absorbed.
Marvel, however, was to the point of ruin.
If we believe the legends of the history of Marvel comics, there was a point at which a desperate Stan Lee sat in Marvel's offices, watching the furniture being taken out for non-payment, devoid of distributors and hope, weeping on a desk, when Golden Age comics veteran Jack Kirby walked in and saved everything.

Marvel was trying to create characters we could relate to, DC was trying to continue with characters that awed us.
The "Silver Age" is primarily the DC line and started with the first appearance of the Barry Allen Flash in Showcase #4.
According to legend, the heads of DC and Marvel (I don't remember either of their names, sorry) were playing golf and the Marvel guy was regaled with tales of how well JLA was selling.

The CHUD.COM Message Boards - The Marvel Age
It strikes me that, for all that Marvel is generally considered to be *THE* comics company by so many fanboys, the actual period during which Marvel was dominating the comics field creatively was pretty short.
Not that Marvel is innocent, with Spidey clone, Heroes Reborn, Thing wearing a helmet/any FF story in the 90s, pretty much all the X-books for pretty much all the time, all those awful books that eventually bankrupt the company in the early 90s...
Marvel got off to a great start with their epic line, but the imprint was pretty aimless.

 Marvel Silver Age Superhero Timeline
Marvel Super-Heroes was mostly a reprint series, but for nine issues it included new material, including the introduction of two minor Marvel mainstays--Captain Marvel and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Marvel started two split-hero titles (Amazing Adventures and Astonishing Tales) in 1970, and while they could be seen as the first post-Silver Age titles, I think it's more accurate to see their early divided issues as the last hurrah of the Silver Age.
Probably the most striking example within Marvel is Marvel Feature #1, which contained three stories, all by Roy Thomas, including the first appearance of The Defenders, who got their own (post-Silver Age) series in August 1972.

 - News : 'Marvel Age' series of comics   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Marvel has plans for a new ‘all ages series of comics, that while undoubtedly will prove popular with children, will almost certainly prove controversial with other fans.
The new series will be known as ‘Marvel Age’ and will reprint classic stories of it’s main characters from the past few years, but will also ‘update’ stories from the undeniably classic ‘Marvel Age’ essentially re-writing and re-drawing the stories as were once told by the likes of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
The planned series is already making waves amongst the comic-buying community, with much trepidation amongst fans over de-doing stories that are already classic, and, in the belief of many, should should be left that way.

If the artwork painfully reminds you of the Marvel Mangaverse series we were all subjected to a few years back, it should come as no surprise since artist Makoto Nakatsuka, well known for his manga in Japan, did the art for those, too.
In the Mangaverse titles, it made sense for the artwork to be indistinguishable from the manga art that inspired it, and even more sense for Nakatsuka to do the artistic chores since that's the artistic idiom he's used to working in.

In looking more closely at the development of Silver Age Marvel, an observer can see a certain progression of storytelling complexity as the company, helmed by editor Stan Lee, moved from an early determination to try something new, to a growing consciousness that it had stumbled onto something bursting with potential.
This whole Silver Age period can be broken down roughly into four phases: 1) the Early, Formative Years; 2) the Years of Consolidation; 3) the later, Grandiose Years and 4) the Twilight Years.
