Letters from America: An interview with Richard Starkings (1/2)
As Marvel UK expanded its line of publications, Richard found himself climbing the ladder to an editorial post in charge of many of the company's licensed properties.
Reprints fed much of the Marvel UK output, but sales were strong enough for Starkings and his colleagues, Ian Rimmer, John Tomlinson and Simon Furman, to commission original work from young hopefuls such as Dougie Braithwaite, Bryan Hitch and Liam Sharp.
However, he also challenged the UK contingent to come up with a couple of new projects of their own.

Marvel UK - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marvel UK had began publishing a weekly Star Wars title after the film was released in the UK in early 1978.
Marvel UK had begun to weaken in this time and it was on a visit to the UK that Stan Lee headhunted Dez Skinn to revamp the ailing company.
By 1982 Marvel UK had almost completely stopped publishing weekly titles and moved mainly to monthly titles such as The Daredevils (featuring Moore and Davis's Captain Britain) and The Mighty World Of Marvel, which by now was firmly established as a monthly title.

 The Transformers Archive
Basically, the UK comic was weekly rather than monthly, so even after the US strips had been split in half, the Marvel UK staff needed to make two weeks' worth of material in-house.
He then wrote every UK exclusive story for the rest of the title, although "Crisis of Command" was scripted by Mike Collins for parts 1 and 3, and James Hill for Part 2 [In TF #42 and 44, and 43 respectively].
Marvel initially intended there to be only a four-issue limited series, but sales were so good that at the last minute it was decided to switch to an ongoing series.

Down the Tubes: Life at Marvel UK
For the new Marvel UK universe Neary drew on past creations, such as Death's Head, but reinvented them within a new universe (though still part of the Marvel Universe) where a nefarious, shadowy organisation -- MysTech --plotted world domination, utilising techno-majick, supra-sciences so advanced they were indistinguishable from magic.
The general consensus now seems to be that the sheer number of titles created by Marvel UK outweighed the tiny's company to continue to produce high-quality work and this, combined with the 1990s downturn in comics sales, brought about an implosion and the end of the range after two short years of success.
Marvel UK also used computerised colouring methods, though not in house, and the results are possibly a far cry from the sophisticated renderings of today.

HULK COMIC was published weekly by Marvel UK for 63 issues between March 1979 and May 1980...
The comic was launched to capitalize on the Bixby/Ferrigno television show, (as demonstrated by the usual cover blurbs “TV’s No.1 HERO” and “MARVEL’S TV SENSATION!”), and the character was portrayed as a compromise between the TV show and the Seventies comics version.
Generally drawn a bit slimmer than the comics version, but larger than Ferrigno, (several artists were used and so it varied), this version of the Hulk could be injured and would tire.
