Born in New York City, the Marx Brothers were the sons of Jewish immigrants from different parts of Germany.
The Marx Brothers' segment was a reworking of a scene from their Broadway play I'll Say She Is, a parody of Napoleon that Groucho considered among the Brothers' funniest routines.

Although the Marxes' madcap comedy was diluted by liberal splashes of music and romance, A Night at the Opera (1935) and A Day at the Races (1937) turned out to be terrific movies and their most successful at the box office.

If you really want to learn about the Marx brothers, I recommend reading the books Harpo Speaks and Groucho and Me. What this DVD does give you, however, is a look at some of their work which never made it far.

I first discoverd The Marx Brothers Dec 31, 2001--Jan 1, 2002 during a TCM Marx Movie Marathon.
I usually don't watch TV for more than two hours at a time, but this time I think was the one exception, I watched several of their movies, and seen their oldest, and their greatest movies in one night.
My love for the Marx Brothers was discovered after watching Go West, Which I only saw the last half, but what was there I laughed till my sides hurt, and of course, since this just happened to be a Marx-Marathon on TCM, so I ended up watching them the rest of the night.
