Mary Hopkin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Despite competition from a well-established star, Sandie Shaw, who released her version of the same song as a single that same year, Hopkin's version became a number one hit in the UK singles chart, and reached #2 in the U.S. On 21 February 1969 her debut album Postcard, also produced by McCartney, was released.
She represented the UK in the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest singing "Knock Knock Who's There", which came second in the contest, narrowly beaten by "All Kinds of Everything" performed by Irish singer Dana.
She also appeared in a film by Sara Sugarman called Very Annie Mary, and duetted with Dolly Parton on her 2005 CD Those Were The Days, which went to #48 on the US charts (#9 Country) and number 35 in the UK (number 2 UK Country).

 The Song of Mary
Mary’s response to Elizabeth has been called The Magnificat from the Latin word used in our theme text—"My soul doth magnify the Lord." Her response is in many ways similar to the song of Hannah which she sang to celebrate the birth of Samuel.
While the order of texts seems to place the birth of John after the departure of Mary, it is probable that she stayed to help her cousin with the events surrounding the birth and that the order of texts was merely to complete one episode before beginning the next.
Mary would have known that deliverance from their enemies was to be in fulfillment of God’s oath-bound promise to Abraham.

 AmericanCatholic.org - Scripture From Scratch ©2000 - Mary's Magnificat by Daniel W. Casey
Mary's Magnificat, celebrated only in Luke's Gospel, is one of four hymns, distilled from a collection of early Jewish-Christian canticles, which complement the promise/fulfillment theme of Luke's infancy narrative.
Mary's song is the great New Testament canticle of liberation, praising a God who not only promised to dwell with those who suffer, but more importantly has been faithful to those sustaining promises.
Indeed in Luke's developed painting, Mary transforms resplendently from her role as a natural mother (in the birthing and nursing of Jesus on the biological level), to the Lucan example par excellence of a true disciple (in hearing and obeying the word of God).
