Mary was the daughter of Robert Arden, a well to do farmer whose family home is now called after her (Mary Arden's House).
Mary's father, Robert lived most of his working life in this house and raised a family of eight daughters and Mary was the youngest and was born in the 1530s.
Mary was a wonderful wife who raised a family of eight with William being the third in the brood.

Mary is reprieved, escaping being hanged and then burned at the stake.

Mary Arden was not just the daughter of a prosperous farmer, his father's landlord; hers was one of Warwickshire's most prominent families, tracing its ancestry back beyond the Norman Conquest to the Domesday Book, fully four columns of which were filled by the landholdings of Turchill of Arden — more than any other individual.
Mary was the youngest of eight daughters of the widowed Robert Arden, whose second marriage in April 1548 (to Agnes Hill, née Webbe, widow of another prosperous farmer) added four stepchildren to the substantial brood already crammed into the two-storey Wilmcote farmstead.
Such was the handsome dowry Mary Arden brought to her marriage to the Stratford glover, by whom she would bear eight children in all — four sons and four daughters — over twenty years.

His father, William Arden, was a second cousin of Mary Arden of Wilmcote, the mother of Shakespeare.
In 1583, Arden was indicted in Warwick for plotting against the life of the Queen, as were also his wife, his son-in-law, John Somerville, and Father Hugh Hall, a chaplain whom he maintained in the disguise of a gardener at his home, Park Hall.
It is supposed that Hall was suborned to involve Arden in the alleged plot.

Research has shown she was born at Glebe Farm in Wilmcote, near Stratford-upon-Avon, and not at nearby Mary Arden's House.
The new evidence, that her stepmother, Agnes Arden, was a tenant at Glebe Farm, was discovered by Warwickshire historian Dr Nat Alcock among papers at East Sussex Record Office.
The trust bought Mary Arden's House - now to be called Palmer's Farm - in the 1930s, and Glebe Farm in 1967.

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust said last week that research proves beyond a doubt that the Bard's mother grew up at Glebe Farm, not the property called Mary Arden's House, which is just 50 yards (50 meters) away in Wilmcote, a village outside Stratford-upon-Avon in England.
Some 100,000 people each year visit Mary Arden's House, which was bought by the trust in the 1930s.
Merchandise bearing images of the current Mary Arden's House, which will be renamed Palmer's Farm before the end of the year, will now have to be redesigned.

Actually the so-called Mary Arden's House wasn't constructed until the late 16th century, a little late to be her home.
