Mary Millar (July 26, 1936 in Doncaster, Yorkshire – November 10, 1998 in Brockley, London) was an English actress best remembered for her role as Rose in BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances.
Millar began her career in 1962 in Lock Up Your Daughters, and she was in the original cast of The Phantom of the Opera as Madame Giry.
Mary Millar died of ovarian cancer in 1998 at the age of 62.

Mary Millar was born Mary Wetton in Doncaster on 26 July 1936 and educated at Shirecliffe in Sheffield.
Millar was upgraded to the title role, and the show sailed hopefully into the Cambridge Theatre two months later.
Millar got fine notices, but the show itself seemed out of tune in a climate that didn't welcome such hybrid efforts, and Popkiss was written off.

Mary grew up in the town and was said to be a school teacher before her marriage.
In 1897 towards the end of her last pregnancy, Mary returned to Murtoa to be cared for.
Although there were no apparent complications, and the twin children were born, Mary later became ill. When her condition became serious, a telegram was sent to her husband Charles, but, because of his distance from a telegraph office, he received the notification too late and did not arrive before his wife died.

I was very glad when Mary Miller took over the part of Rose from whoever played her in the first season.
Regarding the Shirley Stelfox vs. Mary Millar question, I have to admit I liked them equally, though of course their approach to the part of Rose was very different.
Millar's vivacity, in fact, made the news of her death hard to take; even after several years, I still can't quite believe it.
