Mary Wickes, born Mary Isabelle Wickenhauser, (June 13, 1910 - October 22, 1995) was an American film and television actress.
As Sister Mary Lazarus, Wickes' portrayal of a very gruff, strict but vulnerable elderly nun contributed to the film's popularity, and she reprised the role in the sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993).
In 2004 Mary Wickes was inducted into the St.

Mary Wickes was born to boss stars around and she did it in her own inimitable style for over half a century in dozens of movies.
Onscreen, Mary Wickes was intimidated by no one, not her blustering employers, not their bratty kids, and certainly not, when she played the quintessential nun, Mother Superiors.
In recent years, Mary Wickes enjoyed a renaissance as an actress, playing in such high profile ventures as "Postcards from the Edge", (an offbeat role for her as Shirley MacLaine's mother and Meryl Streep's grandmother) the "Sister Act" films and "Little Women".

It is highly likely that Mary Pole's husband was a close relative of Francis Wickes, described as a "gentleman", who fathered six children baptised at Weston Favell between 1651 and 1663 and who had seven hearths there in 1662.
She left £60 each to her daughters Mary and Catherine Wicks, £80 to her daughter Ann Wicks, £30 to her daughter Elizabeth Norton, one shilling to her son William and the residue to her son John whom she appointed executor.
Before departing from John Wickes' establishment, the visiting horses made their own personal contributions to his wealth; by the end of John's life dung had accumulated in the yard to the value of £9.

Sigmund and the Sea Monsters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its basic premise was that of Sigmund (played by Billy Barty), a friendly (if somewhat cowardly) sea monster who runs away from his comically dysfunctional undersea family, and is discovered and befriended by two boys, Johnny (played by Johnny Whitaker), and Scott (Scott Kolden), who let Sigmund stay in their hideout.
Plotlines were very simple and straightforward, usually some variation on the idea of Sigmund doing something silly to arouse attention and the boys working to prevent him from being found by Sigmund's brothers, Burp and Slurp, or the boys' overbearing Aunt Zelda, played by Mary Wickes.
In the final season of the show, Rip Taylor was added to the cast as a magical "Sea Genie" named "Sheldon."

I played the tape of Mary Wickes as Laverne, listened to it carefully, prayed that I could do a good job in impersonating her voice, and said all the words and lyrics that I lovingly called the script that she was to say as Laverne that she had not completed yet.
So I was very glad I could complete the job for this great lady that I always admired and that she got the billing for being Laverne the Gargoyle, so she could complete the job she had started.
