Mary programming language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mary is a rather obscure programming language perpetrated by RUNIT at Trondheim, Norway in the 1970s.
There were several language features that appear to have existed to allow programmers to produce reasonably well optimised code with what must have been a very primitive code generator in the compiler.
The original Mary compiler was written in NU ALGOL, ran on the Univac-1100 series and was used to bootstrap a native compiler for ND-100/SINTRAN-III.

 The Icon Programming Language
The Icon programming language [4] was developed to integrate and generalize SNOBOL4's facilities, as well as to provide a familiar syntax resembling Pascal and C. More recently, Icon has added graphics facilities to support the visual presentation of data and interactive user interfaces [5].
Icon is a high-level programming language; its features are cast close to the problem domain instead of the hardware of the computers on which it runs.
Programming languages, most of which were designed and implemented before graphics facilities were widely available, have lagged.

In Search of the Ideal Programming Language
Program verification is still very much a theoretical topic, yet the programs we write must be correct and must operate predictably in all cases.
If the language provided the programmer with the facility to dynamically determine the type and number of parameters, however, most, if not all, built-in procedures and functions could be written in terms of the language itself and the programmer would have an extremely powerful tool for extending the language to suit his own needs.
A good programming language provides the programmer with an environment in which the programs he writes are more likely to be correct and to execute safely, and in which a program with a logical mistake will terminate with a run-time error, rather than run and produce mysterious results.

Many languages have tuples/records for basic datatype which can not be extended (add/remove), it seems this would be useful where you have 10 attributes but only want to deal with 3 of them.
