Scholl participated in the planning and production of the Maryinsky Ballet's reconstruction of Sleeping Beauty and his talk will discuss the political, social, and aesthetic complexities enmeshing the performing arts in Russia today.
Scholl is on the faculty at Oberlin and is the director of the Oberlin Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies.

Because of his phenomenal memory, he became régisseur of the Ballets Russes on their first trip to Paris in 1909 and remained in that position for twenty years.
He studied at the St. Petersburg Imperial School, graduating in 1900, and danced with the Maryinsky Ballet until Diaghilev appointed him ballet master in 1909.
Before he agreed to return Fokine made many demands: to dance leading roles; that all of Nijinsky's ballets be dropped from the repertoire; and that Grigoriev and his wife, the ballerina Lubov Tchernicheva, be discharged from the company.

A second fine program is built around dance critic and historian Marilyn Hunt’s 2004 “Dancing from the Heart.” The subject is the dances to the sun, to animals, and other natural forces that are practiced by the Pueblo Indian tribes of New Mexico.
The dancer and dance historian Katy Matheson was a familiar face and a warm presence at many previous editions of the Dance on Camera Festival, where, both intellectually curious and magnanimous toward a range of artists, she would sit through every film of every program.
Her special area of interest was improvisation; and her essay on the subject in the “International Encyclopedia of Dance” is representative of her expansive approach.

Vera achieved her greatest fame in Western Europe where she began her appearance's in 1908 with the Diaghileff ballet.
