Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, a state of the United States of America, and the county seat of Anne Arundel County.
The Maryland Gazette, which became an important weekly journal, was founded by Jonas Green in 1745; in 1769 a theatre was opened; during this period also the commerce was considerable, but declined rapidly after Baltimore, in 1780, was made a port of entry, and now oyster-packing is the city's only important industry.
The Maryland state house housed the workings of the government from November 26, 1783 to August 13, 1784, and the Treaty of Paris was ratified there on January 14, 1784, so Annapolis became the first peacetime capital of the US.

Dagobert Soergel is Professor in the College of Library and Information Services, University of Maryland and specializes in the development of classification schemes and thesauri.
This is useful for many purposes: detecting new senses, obtaining statistics on sense occurrence, testing the effectiveness of correct disambiguation for retrieval or clustering of documents, and training disambiguation algorithms.
However, the real usefulness of the statistical approach does not appear clearly until Section 10.3, where the approach is applied to the study of selectional preferences of verbs (another example of mining semantic and lexical information from text); thus the reader lacks the motivation to understand the sophisticated statistical modeling.

Language engineering for applications such as word-sense disambiguation, information extraction, question answering, and text summarization is currently driving the evolution of computational lexicons.
Word-sense disambiguation (WSD) is the process of automatically deciding which sense is intended in a given context (see Disambiguation, Lexical).
WSD requires a characterization of the context and mechanisms for associating nearby words, handling syntactic disambiguation cues, and resolving the constraints imposed by ambiguous words, all of which pertain to the content of lexicons.

The Synergy of NLP and Computational Lexicography Tasks
The baseline was important as a mechanism for using a straightforward statistical analysis for disambiguation.
The baseline technique followed (Lesk, 1986) in using dictionary definitions and examples as the basis for computing an inverse document frequency and matching surrounding context in the Senseval sentences.
This will enable the results to be used as a “gold standard” which can then be used to examine other mapping techniques (such as the componential analysis described in (Litkowski, 1999)).

We will cover such topics as word sense disambiguation, lexical cohesion, and the creation of semantic concordances, based on the work of different researchers and reported in Fellbaum (1998).
Specifically, the multilingual design, the use and adaptation of an interlingual-index, the language-internal relations and the methodology of developing the wordnets: starting from a shared set of Base Concepts and a top-ontology, representing the concept in a language and extending it top-down.
The problem of mapping words into word meanings, known as the word sense disambiguation (WSD), is an important problem in natural language understanding as its solution impacts other tasks such as discourse processing, reference resolution, coherence inference, and others.

The thesis presents a solution to the difficult problem of how to distribute data in sequential programs among several banks to best exploit memory parallelism, and yet retain the ability to disambiguate references to particular banks.
It enables both a high degree of memory parallelism, and on Raw the use of a fast compiler-routed static network rather than a slower dynamic network.
Static memory disambiguation may also be useful in other architectures that exploit ILP and have multiple banks with non-uniform access times.
