Maryland Public Television or MPT is a state-wide network of PBS member stations serving Maryland, with studios located in Owings Mills and six high-power UHF transmitters across the state.
Maryland Public Television and MPT are their on-air identities; they are owned by the state by the Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission.

Maryland Public Television to Fire Rukeyser After His on- Air Criticism
Rukeyser told the audience that the "woods are full of smart television executives who are wonderfully excited at the prospect of producing the new Louis Rukeyser program." He also asked viewers to write to their local public television stations and demand that they air his new show.
MPT officials said the shake-up was necessary because the show's audience and expectations had changed, and they felt Fortune was a powerful partner.
The 3-decade-long Louis Rukeyser era at Maryland Public Television is coming to an acrimonious close, as the pioneering financial journalist is being forced out of the anchor's chair of the program that bears his name.

In August, the Baltimore Sun reported that MPT officials claimed they were forced to dump Rukeyser or the show would have lost national distribution by PBS.
In fact, Potthast told Maynard that one reason he's leaving MPT is that, as a state employee, he will be eligible to collect a pension from Maryland after 25 years at MPT on Feb. 1.
MPT has not announced a replacement for Potthast and will "consider the situation in January in light of a state hiring freeze," an MPT spokeswoman told Maynard.

Maryland Public Television education site provides more sizzle than steak
While the press release claims that Dollars and Sense was "developed in collaboration with educators and economic organizations, incorporates a hip design with interactive activities and tools to engage middle and high schoolers," the site falls way short of its billing.
It is clear that Maryland Public Television spent some money on this site (at least on graphic designers) and I'll go out on a limb a say that it was a complete waste of time and resources.
