Marylebone Cricket Club - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), founded in 1787, is a private members' club and was the original governing body of cricket in England and across the world.
However the MCC remains the framer and copyright holder of the Laws of Cricket, although this role is increasingly under pressure as the ICC seeks to exercise control over all aspects of the world game.
The club was involved in a minor controversy over its members' persistent refusal to allow female membership well into the 1990s, with club ballots on the change, although supported by the officers of the club, unable to attract the two-thirds majority amongst the membership required for implementation.

History of Lords Cricket Field London England
Marylebone Cricket Club was founded in 1787 - a fact gathered from a poster for a cricket match in 1837 announcing MCC's Golden jubilee.
In the 1870s, MCC decided it wanted to get involved in county cricket, which was growing in popularity, and, in 1877, it invited Middlesex to adopt Lord's as its county ground - an arrangement which continues after 125 years.
Since MCC was a private Club it could not receive public funds, so it set up a Cricket Council as the governing body of cricket and the Test and County Cricket Board to administer the professional game.

Cricket was taken to the colonies of the British empire during the 19th century, and the fist 'Test' match was played in 1877 between England and Australia.
Cricket at this time, and for several centuries, was a game enjoyed by young people and peasants and it was not until the late 17th century that society became genuinely interested in the sport.
Cricket declined in the USA in the 20th century because in the late 1800s it had remained a strictly amateur elite sport at the same time that England, then Australia, were developing a professional system that allowed full-time players to participate.

 Cricket laws 2000
1788 The first MCC Code of Laws was adopted on 30th May. 1835 A new Code of Laws was approved by the MCC Committee on 19th May. 1884 After consultation with cricket clubs worldwide, important alterations were incorporated in a new version approved at an MCC Special General Meeting on 21st April.
MCC, as the accepted Guardian of the Laws, which can only be changed by the vote of two-thirds of the Members at a Special General Meeting of the Club, has always been prepared to answer the queries and to give interpretations on certain conditions, which will be readily understood.
In other cases, enquiries should be initiated by a representative officer of a club, or of an umpires' association on behalf of his or her committee, or by a master or mistress in charge of school cricket.

History of the Marleborne Cricket Club in Canada
The Marleborne Cricket Club would have you believe that they are a family of cricketers who trace their collective genealogy back to before the days the game was played on grass by gentlemen, hence the name "Lords" for their ancestral home.
For those who bemoan the current plight of cricket with its betting, professionalism, marketing and match fixing, you will be comforted to know that the genus of the MCC and Lords was in gambling and the desire of the English nobility to do their scandalous business out of the eyes of the prying public.
The MCC is older than an anachronism and some would say color blind as evidenced by their choice of family colors, scrambled eggs and ketchup; I suspect gender blind as well, why they refused to recognize the existence of woman to apply for membership of the Club until recently.
