The environment in Manicaland province was similar to experiences of Mashonaland West in that the settlers have been allocated a certain portion on the farm under mainly the A2 scheme and are not necessarily interfering with the activities on the farm.
In Mashonaland Central province, farm workers used to be allocated pieces of land by the commercial farmers.
In Mashonaland Central, on farms that have stopped operations completely, the farm workers are unemployed but some continue to stay on the farms because they indicate that they have nowhere to go while some have moved to farms that are still operational but still remain unemployed.

Mashonaland Central - Charles Anderson (early 40's), a farm manager, was shot and killed at noon today by unknown assailants.
One of the children is said to have received a minor injury perpetrated by one of the four intruders.
The farm, Dunmaglas of Norfolk Estate, is 378 hectares in extent and is in the Glendale/ Mazowe farming area of Mashonaland Central.

At the base MM was reportedly assaulted all over the body with baton sticks and kicked with booted feet on her back and chest until a certain Mabika told the youths that it was enough and that they should stop.

  In areas such as Murehwa and Mutoko in Mashonaland East, well known members of the opposition including MPs were allowed to operate, but supporters and lower ranking members faced constant threats, intimidation and at times assault from ZANU PF supporters particularly the party youth, war veterans, and members of the youth militia.
In February, Human Rights Watch documented the case of a nongovernmental organization whose offices were closed by war veterans in Mt. Darwin, Mashonaland Central, after it was discovered that one of the organization’s employees was an MDC member.
Local human rights activists informed Human Rights Watch that in parts of Manicaland and Mashonaland, those who were labeled as MDC were sometimes forced from their rural homes by ZANU PF supporters or ended up losing their jobs due to intimidation from ruling party supporters and members.

Gokwe Central 2 May 2002 (went missing 10 April 2002) The body of Tipason Madhobha, an MDC polling agent in the Presidential elections who went missing on April 10, was found in a shallow stream near Ganye Dam.
The assault has left the victim with swelling and bruises to the forehead, a tear on his lower lip and a possible fracture with swelling, bruises and scratches to his right forearm.
