In Mashonaland East province, the situation is generally confrontational between farm workers and the new settlers.
The environment in Manicaland province was similar to experiences of Mashonaland West in that the settlers have been allocated a certain portion on the farm under mainly the A2 scheme and are not necessarily interfering with the activities on the farm.
Mashonaland West province features prominently in terms of farmer’s provision of subsidised maize meal to farm workers with nearly 42 percent of farms accessed having this priviledge.

There are a total of 79 Zanu-PF bases and torture camps in the whole of Mashonaland which are used to interrogate and torture members of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change, the MDC says.
The MDC has taken advantage of the presence of foreign election observers who are here to monitor the 9 and 10 March presidential race, to release a list of these bases urging the observers to verify their presence and what they are used for.
In Mashonaland East, 10 teachers at Goromonzi High School were last week threatened with unspecified action by "war veterans" for allegedly supporting the MDC.

Mashonaland Central - Charles Anderson (early 40's), a farm manager, was shot and killed at noon today by unknown assailants.
One of the children is said to have received a minor injury perpetrated by one of the four intruders.
The farm, Dunmaglas of Norfolk Estate, is 378 hectares in extent and is in the Glendale/ Mazowe farming area of Mashonaland Central.

Gokwe East:  It was reported that an unnamed MDC driver was ferrying MDC literature and food supplies for election agents, seals for the ballot boxes and stickers when he was stopped by the ZRP and detained without charge.
Marondera West and East: Following the setting up of a polling station at Chakadenga, ZANU (PF) supporters trashed the polling station and farm village and a truck belonging to the owner of the farm was stolen.
In Karoi, in Mashonaland West province, one MDC polling agent was beaten and drowned while another was wrapped in hay and set alight and is now in hospital, according to local residents.

A STORM is brewing between top government officials and settlers at a farm in Mashonaland East after ZANU PF stalwarts besieged the farm to facilitate occupation by provincial party heavyweights.
ZANU PF heavyweights in Mashonaland East, who attended a meeting to solve the issue two ago, were at pains to put a human face to the eviction, but met with stiff resistance from the settlers.
David Karimanzira, the governor for Mashonaland East, Finance Minister Herbert Murerwa, Member of Parliament for Murewa South Joel Biggie Matiza and Mashonaland East provincial chairman Ray Kaukonde attended the meeting.

There were various tracks leading from the council road on the east which all stopped short of the river.

The worst affected districts include Chikomba and Wedza in Mashonaland East and Guruve and Muzarabani in Mashonaland Central, where most farm workers have moved out.
The same scenario was observed in Mazoe district of Mashonaland Central province.
