Mason County is one of the Ohio Valley counties on West Virginia’s western boundary.
It is bounded on the north by Ohio, on the east and northeast by Jackson and Putnam Counties, on the south by Putnam and Cabell Counties, and on the west by Ohio.
The important rivers belonging to Mason County are the Ohio River, which flows along its northern and western boundaries for fifty-six miles, and the Kanawha River, which flows through the central part of the county for eighteen miles.

Kim Varner [klvarner@yahoo.com] whose father was caretaker of the Preston County Poor House in Kingwood, and whose family lived there from 1973 until 2 years ago, has shared with us some wonderful photographs (then and now) in a photo album.
