Mason Malmuth is one of the most recognizable names in gambling for writing an incredible volume of information on applying skill to casino games.
Malmuth provides what is probably the best currently in print description of Front Loading, good information on how to improve the profitability of casino trips, and, a Malmuth trademark, a thorough debunking of several mistaken fljack myths perpetrated by other authors.
Malmuth presents his case in a clear, straightforward manner listing the "pros" and "cons" of both sides of the issue and stating the reasons he believes his side of the debate is correct.

Malmuth carries this idea further to conclude that the individual chips in a small stack are worth more per chip than the individual chips in a big stack.
Mason Malmuth may be the foremost advocate of a tight style of play in poker tournaments.
Malmuth’s tight “survival tactics”, by failing to use chips for their full earning power, are in effect leading to a higher chip cost for his tight player.

UPF - Mason Malmuth Hand from CP   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
This one is from Mason Malmuth's column, in which he argues that many players play too timidly post-flop.
Mason says bet "and it's not even close." He says that because it's a big pot, you need to do all you can to take it down now.
With 5 people in the pot, the odds of one of them having a king is definately less than the odds the pot is offering you (in a raised pot), and if you do happen to hold the best hand, failing to bet may be a mathematical catastrophie.

 Mason Malmuth reviews ITH
Mason Malmuth is a co-writer and business partner of David Sklansky, who wrote the first book on holdem and "Theory of Poker", which is widely considered the best book on poker ever published.
Mason is also an author of very popular "Poker Essays" which he published in three volumes.
Where Mason was describing books I had also read (about a third), I though they were spot on, although I was'nt convinced that the marking was completely impartial.

Mason Malmuth's Poker Essays Volume 3 Review
The essays are taken from Malmuth's writings in Poker Digest and other magazines over the past few years, as with the first two volumes.
As usual, Malmuth succeeds admirably in forcing the reader to think about many aspects of their game most players are usually unaware of.
One of the things I like best about Malmuth is that he finds topics to write about that are completely ignored or forgotten by most players but that are either directly or indirectly relevant to winning play.

UPF - Caro Professional Hold'em report   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Mason Malmuth has given every book published by twoplustwo publishing a "10 out of 10" rating, yet has the audacity to slam other people's books who are very respected in the poker community.
In this case, I think Mason Malmuth is sincere (though misguided) in his evaluation.
Mason is a mid-limit Vegas pro and the mid-limit Vegas games are reputed to be generally tougher and tighter than corresponding games elsewhere (Roy could probably comment on this).

Response to Mason Malmuth on the Rebuy Advice in The Poker Tournament Formula
Mason quotes sections from my book, then presents his contrary opinion.
First, Mason describes how I show that in a coin-flipping contest, where neither player has an advantage, if one player starts with twice the chips of the other player by paying twice as much for those chips, then neither player has an advantage.
No, Mason, he loses that much money because he’s paying 500% of the cost of his initial buy-in for his rebuy chip.

I believe his analysis to be correct, but he omits some important information that makes it apparent why this is so, and why someone would still want to diversify their investment portfolio.
If I have one criticism of Malmuth's writing, it's that he occasionally states a quality opinion in more controversial language than it needs to be.
Part six contains some of Malmuth's less serious, although still interesting, essays, including his views of some important historical events through the eyes of a poker player and even an essay about bad beat stories that I actually found to be worth reading.

The 2+2 Forums: Question for Mason Malmuth about quiz #1 in "Poker Essays"
Your lone opponent may be 'loose, wild and reckless' but the odds of his check raising with an A7 is very poor: You have one, there is one on the flop...and a third came out on 4th.
Like Mason says, everything thus far points to his likely having A9; and it's not too likely he had a pair of 9's since he would have had to check raise you with an underpair on the flop.
So I guess what you are saying is the chances of there being 4 sevens at the top of the deck are less likely than there being 2 nines.

He remained calm and reasonable and the comparison between his demeanor and Mason's was glaring.
Nside, I believe I posted at one time that ITH received one of the highest ratings for a limit book so I was pretty happy with a 7 given the source.
Most of his higher ratings are for books that focus on NL, tells, general interest, etc. Mason did say that Roy Cooke's book received a 9 so I stand corrected although I think that book is not a comprehensive book on limit strategy.
