Markus Blogg: Hannibal Lecter vs. Mason Verger

Verger's ultimate goal is revenge, and he uses his substantial financial advantage to get Agent Starling reassigned to the Lecter case, in effect using her as bait for Lecter - who we know in Silence of the Lambs has a particular affinity for the young agent.
Throughout the film, Starling is subjected to sexually charged statements from men in power positions, namely her superior in the justice department, Paul Krendler, and the man behind it all, Mason Verger.
Verger is the Hannibal equivalent of the villain Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs, in that he is a lunatic with a mission, but the similarities end there.
