		In the last four years, fruit pollination has declined in proportion to a drop in wild honey bee populations in suburban B.C. Wild honey bees account for a large percentage of plant pollination, but the wild honey population is declining because of an increasing problem with mites in its colonies.
		Dogterom's study compared the amount of pollen carried by four different types of bees: the honey, bumble, alfalfa leaf cutter and mason bees; it also compared the cost effectiveness of pollinating high-bush blueberry orchards with each type of bee and the cost of commercially producing each of the bees.
