Before beginning Masonna, Yamazaki listened to a lot of hard rock, death metal, hardcore punk, grindcore, and power electronics, and it was his unique digestion and interpretation of the original energy that this music possessed that led to his development of an unparalleled style of condensed fury.
Masonna began serious live performance in 1991, coupling over-the-top physical action with harsh noise created using just a microphone and the bare minimum of equipment.

It is actually the vocals that are the most confusing, in terms of expression of emotion they seem quite inconsistent, or rather they change very fast from fear to dominance; although the pace of the music is extremely fast, the vocal emotional changes are at a pace slightly too high.
Masonna's music is potentially comparable to Tribes Of The Neurot, with a little bit of the odd sounds of Coil or ElPh, and certainly at a tempo far greater than any of those.

Not to take anythign away from Masonna of course, but Merzbow is more well rounded.
I hate to say it but generally when you've heard one Masonna album, you've heard the majority of the others.
Masonna works better in short spurts, which is clearly how the shit is intended to be ingested.

Imagine a well-amplified vacuum cleaner with all of its harmonic chaos, then throw in some static, and perhaps a constant low-level shriek, and you have Inner Mind Mystique 1.
Masonna's music is notable for its extremism, but would listeners derive any less enjoyment from the cacophony of their own household appliances?

Masonna - Japan's "most extreme noise artist" makes his UK live debut on Sunday, February 14th, 1999, as the special guest of Pan sonic, who celebrate the release of their new album, "a" (out Feburary 22) on Blast First.
Doors open at 8pm, with Pan sonic on at 8.45 pm and Masonna on at 9.30 pm.
Blast First also release a Masonna limited 1000 edition, 20 minute 3" CD with a wild Savage Pencil cover, which is available ONLY at the gig or via Mute Bank mail order for £5.

I'm realizing now that N.P. is just the name that I saw on the tiny calendar on the club's wall, and may very well be initials for a longer name.
