  MB Review: Chapter Three
Masterbook has the same problem, the Difficulty Numbers for helping someone heal a wound are apparently not affected by available technology, conditions or anything else.
The main change that Masterbook makes from Torg is that the result points from a push are not added directly to the value being pushed but are instead read on the value chart and the measure is added to the measure of the pushed value.
But the biggest change is that Masterbook ditches what I consider to be one of Torg 's most elegant mechanics, the use of one die roll to determine the success or failure of all actions attempted in one round.

 Masterbook [Archive] - RPGnet Forums
I wouldn't buy the stright Masterbook rules, though I have bought several of the "World Of..." setting books cause they were generally good, even if the system was crapola.
The actual Masterbook system, on the other hand...well, it never really grabbed me. But these days I'd probably be willing to go in for $10 just to get a deck of those cards.
Masterbook lopped the whacky high end off of Torg, which is where a lot of the entertainment value was for me.

My opinion on Masterbook   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
Masterbook was WEG's attempt at making a more generic version of the Torg system.
In 1995 I attempted to do an in-depth review/analysis of Masterbook, though I'm sure to many people it appeared more like a bitch session about how I thought the original Torg system was better.
Torg, Masterbook, Shatterzone, West End Games, and WEG are trademarks of Purgatory Publishing.

The cross-column rule is a permitted option (where you have the opportunity to adjust slightly the number of advantages you get from each column.
Since characters are likely to be traveling to a variety of locations, or at least called upon to know about histories and customs, it is recommended that some points be spent on skills that account for knowledge during earlier exploits.
Dannotes are readily available in Kingstown; however, the ability to exchange the Dannotes back to gold is limited in the other duchies (always available around the duchy keeps) and may incur an exchange surcharge.

IJ is a Masterbook game, Masterbook being a basic generic set of rules that can be used in a variety of settings.
Masterbook is based on the Shatterzone system, which was based on the earlier and much superior Greg Gordon-designed Torg system.
But the kick is that we were using the new d6 Masterbook conversion system, which is essentially the Star Wars system.

RPGnet: Review of The World of Tank Girl
Even though this is complicated at first, it only took a couple hours of play for the GM and players to get the hang of the system.
The biggest weakness of The World of Tank Girl (besides the Masterbook system's complexity) is that it isn't ready to play "out of the box." The Masterbook rules don't fully describe basic weapons or equipment and any "SFX" (e.g., super-science, psychic powers, miracles, or magic) must be developed from scratch, using Masterbook's complicated system.
There is also a great deal of potential for fun play for a group willing to put the work into filling in the gaps and learning the Masterbook system.

 [No title]
Because there is not a Masterbook or Shatterzone newsgroup they may be discussed in alt.games.torg but not on the TORG list, there is now a seperate Masterbook mailing list for those games.
Both Shatterzone and Masterbook base their mechanics on the mechanics of TORG, though there are enough changes that the games are not 100% compatible.
Masterbook is West End Games' new house system and all future game releases from them will use that system, including any possible sequel to TORG or revision of Shatterzone.

 Pulp Krieg: Masterbook Conversion
This page describes guidelines to convert characters and other items from Masterbook (the system used by West End Games for their first few Indiana Jones books) to the Silhouette rules.
The two systems are based on very different assumptions, so the conversion, as it is often the case with these endeavors, is fair from flawless.
Here is how to proceed to convert a Masterbook (MB from now on) character in Silhouette.

Storm Knights: Bloodshadows   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
Bloodshadows, the D6 Adventures sourcebook, began its life as a worldbook for the MasterBook system.
It details the world of Marl, a dark and magical world where gangsters and hustlers rub elbows with demons and mages on the streets of a world gripped by a Godswar.
The MasterBook version has mechanics that are compatible with Torg, so require little translation.

To follow is a combination of Advantage/Disadvantage systems from Shatterzone, Masterbook and a little from D6 (plus some psi powers from Star Frontiers).
However, there are some advantages / compensations listed in the Masterbook companion that can not be applied to Star Wars, or only by some strange stretch, can be applied.

Of the first Masterbook products, (Masterbook is a generic system, a la GURPS) Indiana Jones was decent and Bloodshadows was too, from what I've seen (I haven't looked at the book or played it).
And the ones I've seen all violate (er, "modify") the Masterbook rules to the point its not really a generic system any more.

Pyramid: Pyramid Pick: MasterBook Games / Bloodshadows   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
MasterBook is West End's entry into the generic RPG sweepstakes.
West End games are traditionally a bit rules heavy, and MasterBook carries on that tradition, rather than trying to buy into the rules-lite paradigm of hot systems like Storyteller and its ilk.
Complexity wise, the game falls squarely in the familiar generic territory staked out by Hero, GURPS and Role Master.

["kinda cool" statement later withdrawn] The new rulebook will continue to use the original TORG method though the Masterbook approach and the list's modified MB approach (to use both methods, whichever is less) will be included as optional rules.
But the highly skilled character generally doesn't have to worry about it and if he should have to buy off damage he'll be doing it less often and it'll be more cost-effective.
