Mastermind is a simple code-breaking board game for two players, invented in 1970 by Mordecai Meirowitz, an Israeli postmaster and telecommunications expert.
Subsequent mathematicians have been finding various algorithms that reduce the average number of turns needed to solve the pattern: in 1993, Kenji Koyama and Tony W. Lai found a method that required an average of 4.340 turns to solve, with a worst case scenario of six turns.
Mastermind is similar to moo, a computer program written in the late 1960s by J. Grochow at MIT in the PL/I computer language for the Multics operating system.

MasterMind is a game of logic and skill (with a little luck thrown in with your initial chosen sequence).
During game play, click on a peg to change its color by sequencing through the eight possible peg colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, fl and white.
When the game is over, because you have "guessed" the peg color sequence, or you have used up all 12 of your chances, the color sequence you were attempting to guess is shown under the "hooded" last column.

Mastermind is actually an elegantly simple game which, when played correctly, will provide a mental workout.
If a line has two fl dots and one white dot, you need to have two pegs in your solution that match in color and position, and one peg which matches in color and which does not match in position, no more and no less, or it will not be the correct solution.
I'm unlikely to make any major changes to it, but if you have any comments, please send them to Nick Simicich and I'll be sure to read them sooner or later.
