Several years ago, all funding of active retirements program participants was moved from the district to the colleges, and funding was allocated to colleges based upon the numbers of active retirees they had at the time of that decision.
The district committee that is examining alternatives is considering a tiered approach, meaning that an employee's years of service in the system might dictate the number of years in which they can participate in the active retirement program.
The district planning office has provided cost per square foot estimates for various types of spaces and each college has been asked to determine how much of each type of space is needed within each building project that we are proposing.

Connie Lutz, executive director of curriculum and assessment for the Mat-Su School District, said the biggest obstacle for schools in passing AYP is the law itself.
Last year, several Title 1 schools in the Mat-Su missed AYP for the second year in a row and the school district was forced to offer transportation for students who wanted to transfer to schools that passed AYP.
This year, in addition to offering alternate school choices, the district also must offer tutors and additional education services for eligible students who attend Title 1 schools that missed AYP for the third consecutive year.

The requesting District should be notified by telephone of the ETA of the vehicle.

The Associated General Contractors of Alaska is working with the Matanuska-Susitna School District to build a construction career academy to encourage and prepare high-school students for careers in the industry.
The academy is expected to enroll its first 80 or so students in the 2007-08 school year, said Kris Forrester, director of career and technology education for the Mat-Su district.
It's part of the Mat-Su district's four-year plan to launch a career academy that offers students an education in such areas as auto mechanics and welding in addition to construction, Forrester said.

MAT Sabbaticals- Donna Roach reported that the District MAT group is looking at the issue of extending the sabbatical length for MAT.  Currently, Sabbatical terms are 9 months for faculty, 1 year for PSA, and 6 months for MAT.
.  $15 supports the district MAT group.  The remaining $10 supports the PVCC MAT group.  Esther was requested to inquire as to the use/purpose of the $15 district portion.  She will report back to the group.
MAT Service Day — It was suggested to plan a MAT Service Day during 05-06 similar to what was done several year’s ago where managers volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul.
