Hoffman pretty much follows this same line of thinking as it takes the gist of the original game, throws in some new courses and tweaked controls, still managing to turn out a worthwhile gaming experience.
The gameplay was actually quite fun in the first Hoffman title, not just a cheap attempt to cash in on the success of the Tony Hawk series.
At the end of the day Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX 2 is an entertaining romp, but the high level of difficulty really needs to be taken into consideration before plunking down the cash on this one.

Hoffman tells his story from the time he dropped out of school to ride in BMX tournaments professionally until late 2002, when he was 30 and he, skateboarder Tony Hawk, and many other extreme sports superstars took the "Boom Boom Huck Jam" music and sports production on the road.
Two things struck me about Mat's story: One, his commitment and utter refusal to take "that's impossible" for an answer (sometimes to the point of self-destruction), and two, the earnest, humble way in which it was related.
Mat's book is a very human account of an unorthodox life in progress--he freely admits his faults, lovingly celebrates the friends and family (and doctors) who have helped him succeed, and gives the reader generous access to what goes on in his mind.

The reality is that these games, like Tony Hawk and Mat Hoffman, are at the top of the heap when it comes to gameplay.
The XBox game looks a little better and has the obligatory extra rider and level, but it lacks the use of home made soundtracks, which is a bummer.
If it weren’t for the fact that the tasks involved in each level of these games are getting ridiculously redundant, we’d probably just keep handing out the “A”s for excellence in video gameplay.

Mat Hoffman on the Game Boy Advance isn't a Tony Hawk 2 clone, though it follows the same formula: each location has a set number of tasks to complete, from a tier of scores (high, pro, and sick), to object collection (T-R-I-C-K letters and stars).
Each environment is constructed of lanes of vert ramps, funboxes, and spines; the game limits your vertical movement so you don't accidentally move off the current lane your bike is traveling in, since you'll be using the D-pad to pull off moves and combos, as well as changing which lane you're riding in.
Mat Hoffman on the GBA starts out with an uphill struggle, as it's not exactly an intuitive game to pick up and play the second you peel off the shrinkwrap.
