		Matador is often labelled an “indie- cred rock” label, and though this to some extent certainly is true (they certainly have artists that are both indie, rock and critically acclaimed), Lombardi and Cosloy claim that their music taste is the only thing that dictates who they sign.
		Matador is very much an example of that starting small, doing everything yourself (sometimes with a little money help from larger labels though) and signing bands you are fan of can be very effective.

		What's Up Matador, which came out a couple of years ago, is a very funny program that is set up like a kid's show and features "interviews" with various Matador records stars, along with even more classic videos from the artists mentioned above, and some others also.
		Matador is the best record label around, and there is ample proof on this DVD of that.

	Guided By Voices - Earthquake Glue - Matador Records
		Falling comfortably between Under The Bushes, Under The Stars and Mag Earwhig, this release seeks to take the studio know-how gained from their TVT Records stint and use it with writer and frontman Robert Pollard’s sometimes fractured vision of rock music.
		The combination works surprisingly well, certainly better than it did on their previous outing, Universal Truths and Cycles which, although it was a very good recording in its own right, sounded constricted by the tenet of producing a saleable single.
		I’d recommend Earthquake Glue to GBV fans (who probably already have it), but I’d also recommend it to anyone who is tired of the ever-splintering musical network, confused by which type, genus or species of rock music is the one they actually like.

		The label has been home to such a strangely diverse collection of bands, artists, and freaks that it has become sort of an evil twin of the corporate music world that doesn't need major label partnerships anymore to make a dent in the music scene.
		Matador hardly seems like an independent label because its output is so much larger than any other indie I can think of.
		It would make sense if Matador were only featuring bands currently on the roster, but that's obviously not the case since Guided By Voices is on here.

		Clearly, there is little on this record to boost one's spirits, except maybe the fathomless truth and bittersweet beauty of the songs.
