September 12th, 2005, 06:54 AM I don't know how much of a chance we ever have of Max coming back, though, since he's not a Silver Age character, and Silver Age fans are the only ones who seem to matter at DC right now.

Captain Comics Round Table > Marvel vs DC
When reading Marvel vs. DC/DC vs. Marvel, I had been keeping "score" all along, knew that DC was "behind" at that point, and that the writer of Aquaman was writing the Aquaman/Sub-Mariner match-up (and had made some hints in the press not to expect the strongest guy to win every battle).
David requested that one of the DC victories be Aquaman's since he had his own title (that David was writing), which could really use a sales boost.
Clark Kent Johnson is right! Marvel and DC made no bones about reserving the right to call half the fights themselves in order to facilitate the plot.

 DC Comics Message Boards
I agree that keeping continuity in tact is a massive undertaking, considering that all of the comics that DC has published are the result of the work of thousands of individuals.
Comics aren't intended to match up perfectly unless some form of aid is also published to help you do so (and those only last for a month or so - susually during some event).
DC thought it would be easier to have one simple universe and instead created Earth-Clutter and the multitude of continuity problems.

I don't have a great deal of interest in any other DC character and almost none in Marvel (with the exception of The Punisher) so this match-up didn't have a great deal of emotional investment for me. However, I DO LOVE COMICS.
The matchups are lame, rushed, and truly represent the super-hero comics of today, where battle, strategy, and good art work are abandoned for telling a story as quickly as possible.

Given the high regard comics fans have for this series and the timeless suitable-for-all-ages nature of the stories, I don't understand why DC doesn't keep the material in print in one form or another.
It was the signature work of a man who nurtured comic books, comics characters, and comics creators in the earliest days of the comics industry...and then walked away from his staff job to concentrate on the thing he loved best: cartooning.

OAFE - DC Comics: Prometheus custom figure
Prometheus' introduction to the DCU at large (he first appeared in a one-shot in which he simply recanted his origin) was the first time in Grant Morrison's JLA that Batman was shown as even slightly fallible.
With his computer-boosted fighting skills and reflexes, and the ability to exploit his opponent's weaknesses, Prometheus is nearly a match for the JLA on his own.
This Prometheus was made from a Batman and Robin figure with generous ammounts of artist's clay (another figure I made at school) for the armor.

"Johnny Thunder" was previously used by DC for the name of a sort-of-super-hero, a somewhat comic character of the 1940's.
Johnny Thunder works somewhat irregularly as a deputy for his Sheriff father, and most of the Sheriff characters in the comics report somewhat diffusely to the town fathers, although this is an infrequent event that is rarely depicted.
The fact that comics have always been a color medium, while film and TV of that era were often in black and white, made such standard clothes more feasible in the comics.

Orion - PopMatters Comic Book Review
With New God Orion regaining a sense of elevated profile through his membership in the popular Justice League of America, the DC Comics suits figured that Orion would be the best bet for a Fourth World revival.
Within the first issue, Simonson has Orion questioning whether he is indeed the son of evil Darkseid, Darkseid in apparent possession of the 'anti-life equation', and Orion heading for the prophesised match-up with the powerful ruler of Apokolips.
More than that, Simonson's characterisation of Orion as the tragic hero is spot on, as he rails against his own dark heritage with the fanatical zeal of a believer and the reckless disregard of an infidel.
