Topic: Materialization (parapsychology)

Materialization (parapsychology) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The existence of the paranormal phenomenon of materializations is disputed and has never been observed under controlled circumstances.
Other theories claim that materialization is related to teleportation (the existence of which is also disputed), in that matter is not spontaneously created, but merely transported from another location, and possibly altered in form.
The most famous example of a materialization in Christianity is the story of the multiplication of bread and fish by Jesus to feed a hungry crowd, according to the Bible (John 6:1-15 and Mark 6:35-44) or alternatively Genesis where everything came out of nothing.

Coming at a time when parapsychology was now becoming established as a reputable field for scientific inquiry, such backlash has been an occupational hazard.
With the rise of parapsychology as a reputable study, some of the narrow categories and viewpoints of the past are beginning to dissolve in the nower atmosphere of interdisciplinary studies.

 History of Parapsychology in Austria
At that period, Continental European parapsychology was dominated by the superior personality [35] of Munich-based researcher Albert von Schrenck-Notzing, who later devoted one volume each out of his many publications to the phenomena of Willy and to the mediumship of Rudi.
Materializations were allegedly manifested in addition to the phenomena he usually produced (telekinesis of light objects).
Besides his powerful character as such (see Walther [1960]), his dominating influence on the parapsychology of his day was twofold, [i] scientifically by his many publications on experiments with mediums, by improving the methodology, and, last not least, by formulating (together with Ochorowicz, Geley, and Richet) the paradigm of physical mediumism of his day, i.e.

Parapsychology is the scientific and scholarly study of certain unusual events associated with human experience.
Of course, speculative implications regarding the study of parapsychology differ, depending upon the extent to which it is being studied, the person studying it, and the very nature of the phenomena.
Among the more practical applications of parapsychology, one could be able to one day understand the phenomenon of psychic healing, in which mental interactions with living systems have been capable of healing them.

 Materialization
Materializations were a popular phenomena during the height of spiritualist seances in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Many instances of materializations were observed and even photographed during this period, including the materialization of objects (see apports), such as cups, coins and flowers; animal spirits, body parts, such as human hands, and even complete spirit forms.
Materializations of complete spirits, for example, usually turned out to be the medium themselves, wrapped in muslin or wearing a more elaborate disguise.

Parapsychology is primarily concerned to investigate evidence for and against the reality of paranormal phenomena.
Transpersonal psychology, on the other hand, is more interested in investigating the transpersonal significance of such phenomena (i.e., the ways in which they may give people a sense of connectedness with a larger, more universal or spiritual reality).

Parapsychology is the scientific study of paranormal phenomena.
The "paranormal" (beside or beyond the normal) refers to unusual experiences that do not seem to be explainable in terms of our everyday understanding or known scientific principles.
Many parapsychologists do not accept some or all of these miscellaneous phenomena as the legitimate study of parapsychology.

The magnetic centres seemed to pulse with the breathing rhythm, and to be identical with those spots on the body from which the phenomena of materialization emanated.

Parapsychology does not deal with UFOs, aliens, cryptozoological creatures such as Bigfoot and Chupacabra, nor does it have anything to do with religion, vampires, and witchcraft.
It is a common misconception that parapsychology deals with these, and thus has often been viewed wih great suspicion.
Not only that, but parapsychology is often associated with entertainers engaged in pseudoscience.

Usually the photographer uses flash and light projector to make his photography; for ITC photography, the searcher will need also to provide extra-lights to the spirits, and the ectoplasm will be made of photons energy.

The materialization, in whole or in part, of human bodies and of their clothing and accoutrements, appears to depend on and to consist at least in part of a mysterious substance that emanates from the medium's body, and to which the name of "ectoplasm" has therefore been given.
In connection with reports of materializations, such as those just cited, it should be mentioned that at least one documented report exists of the temporary dematerialization of part of the body of a living person.

They must have discussed this problem together with the UFO phenomenon and a future incarnatio, a materialization of new living matter, expected by Jung for the near future (see Wolfgang Paulis UFO-Meteoriten-Synchronizität).
It is very interesting to see that also for the latter Carl G. Jung - in a letter of 1946 - used the term "frequency" to describe the essence of this hypothetical world with its "metapsychic phenomena." And we recall (see chap.
1) that Wolfgang Pauli's first remarks about parapsychology in 1934 were also in the context of frequency and oscillation symbolism, together with the possibility of a "non-spatial, non-temporal form of being of the psyche".

A phenomena which mimics telepathy, in which a person is able, for example, to find a hidden object by means of physical contact with the person who knows its whereabouts, probably due to subtle muscular cues that the latter provides unconsciously; also known as “Cumberlandism,” after Stuart Cumberland, a nineteenth century practitioner of this art.

In these then state-of-the-art experiments a strong correlation was found between the respiration rate of the medium (extremely increased during his trance state) and the oscillation of a substance segregated by the medium's body and partially absorbing a beam of infra-red light - ultimately a physiological effect.
Thus the appar-ent biologism in parapsychology of that period is justified.
