Mathematics and the Language of Nature - F. David Peat
Mathematics has a beauty all its own and there is, for the mathematician, an aesthetic joy that comes from solving an important problem, no matter what value society may place on this activity.
Mathematics may indeed reflect the operations of the brain, but both brain and mind are far richer in their nature than is suggested by any structure of algorithms and logical operations.
Mathematics is effective when it becomes a hymn to this underlying order of consciousness and the universe, and when it expresses something of the truth inherent in nature.

Ideal economic philosophy is the thought about the ideal economy, how to create justice, why are people rich and poor, what performance can bring real competition, are the rich bad, and so on.
Economics professors of the last decade tried to lead students to high or even exceeding high mathematics until few economists could understand.
I realised the important of mathematics for economics but, be careful, it is not a sacred one.

 Careers in Mathematics
Mathematics is among the most fascinating of all intellectual disciplines, the purest of all art forms, and the most challenging of games.
Mathematics is often done in conjunction with another field: biology, physics, economics, or a host of others.
Applied mathematics draws heavily on analysis, differential equations, and linear algebra to solve problems in statics (making sure the beams are strong enough to hold up the bridge), mechanics (describing how a pendulum moves), electricity and magnetism (calculating the magnetic field induced by an electric current), and many other areas.

 Modelling, step by step
The obvious approach is to devise a mathematical model of the human body, and to see what happens when it moves at different speeds.
Not surprisingly, mathematical models that take account of all these things are more accurate than the simple one that we have used, in explaining the speed at which we change from walking to running.
Others have been used to calculate how far a walker, who wants to use as little energy as possible, should be prepared to deviate from a straight path to avoid a hill or a patch of marshy ground.
