The Matica srpska or Матица српска is the oldest cultural-scientific institution of Serbia.
Mid-way through the project (1967), Matica hrvatska, in accordance with the declaration of principles about the Croatian language, discontinued, and Matica srpska was to finish the dictionary on her own.
The Law of the Matica Srpska Society (1986) regulates matters of endowment and legacy, given by the national benefactors, and how monies are spent for various cultural and educational purposes.

 Former Yugoslav Monographic Bibliography
It was originally founded in 1842 under the name Matica Ilirska and changed its name to Matica Hrvatska in 1874.
Most of this book is a history of the Matica Hrvatska in Zagreb, but the last 150 pages or so comprise a bibliography of the publications of the cultural organization.
The chronological arrangement of citations begins in 1842 with Matica Ilirska and continues with Matica Hrvatska in 1874.

 Laza Kostic
In 1908 he moved to Sremska Mitrovica to become the editor of „Sloboda“, and in 1909 to edit "Srpska riječ" from Sarajevo.
In the same year he prepared two books of short stories to be published by Matica Srpska and "Napredak", but in the war his scripts were lost.
Petrović wrote about a hundred short stories, and a gret number of articles on literature in "Politika", "Letopis" etc. Petrović edited "Album vojvođanske umetnosti" on the occasion of a hundred years of Matica Srpska and there wrote a summary of Serbian art in a period between the end of the 17th to the 20th century.

 Museums
The Museum of Matica Srpska Society has been reconstructed in 1933, and in 1947 it became today's Vojvodina Museum with the complex character, for archeology, history, ethnology and cultural history of Vojvodina.
The memorial exhibition of the artist Hristofor Zefarovic is arranged in the Bodjani monastery, in Sremska Mitrovica the museum called "Robija-skola revolucionara", and there is a natural science collection of the Regional Institute for the protection of the enviroment in the Petrovaradin Fortress.
There are the museum's settings in home towns of well-known Vojvodinians such as those in Idvor, home town of scientist Mihajlo Pupin, in Srpska Crnja of poet and painter Djura Jaksic and in Taras of national hero Svetozar Markovic Toza.

 Serbian National Bibliography
A number of attempts at national bibliography occurred over the ensuing 90 years, some of which are annotated below and others on the page devoted to National Bibliography for Former Yugoslavia, but it wasn't until 1950, with the advent of a semi-Soviet style national bibliography, that Serbia had true national bibliographic coverage.
The title that covers books and music, Bibliografija Jugoslavije: knjige, brosure i muzikalije, is annotated below because it is still the organ of national bibliography for Serbia, but it is also covered on the page entitled National Bibliography for Former Yugoslavia which will have many other works pertinent to the study of Serbian imprints.

Republika Srpska institutions responsible for the investigation of war crimes have been working on the investigation, collection of evidence and documentation of war crimes committed against Serbian civilians and soldiers in the Podrinje region from 1992 to 1995.
A new book was recently presented in the embassy of Serbia and Montenegro in Prague entitled “From Morava to Morava: From the History of Czech-Serb Relations in the 19th and 20th Centuries”.
The book, a unique anthology of works documenting the development of political, cultural, economic and spiritual ties between the Czechs and the Serbs during the 19th and 20th centuries, was issued by Matica Moravska from Brno in cooperation with Matica Srpska in Novi Sad.
