Rashid Minhas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rahman knocked out Minhas (he was originally believed to have used a blunt object, but it was later ascertained that he had used chloroform), with the intention of defecting to India in order to join the liberation movement for Bangladesh (see Bangladesh Liberation War).
Unknown to the PAF at the time, Rahman's family had already sought refuge in the Indian embassy in Karachi, and were awaiting his arrival in India.
In the ensuing battle between the two pilots, it is believed that either Rahman flew the plane into the ground to prevent the plane returning to the base, or Minhas did so in order to prevent Rahman from entering Indian territory.

 Bir Sreshtha Matiur Rahman
On 20 August 1971, Matiur Rahman, theoretically an officer in the Pakistan air force and more realistically a patriotic Bengali who wished, like his seventy five million compatriots back home, to be free of Pakistan, gave his life in order for that cause to live on, to gather speed and thrust as it were.

Matiur Rahman, in essence, was for Pakistan a symbol of what all other Bengalis were for it in 1971, traitors to the ideals and principles of Pakistan.
