 "Matlock Police" (1971)
This was a police drama set in a Australian country town called "Matlock" and had a blend of great Australian artists, which was the rural analogy of the other great Australian classic police drama series "Homicide" in terms of quality.
These two television series would have to be amongst Australia's best television series ever presented.
These two series displayed what great results could be achieved with a limited budget and a well planned goal.

Matlock was given a ‘boost’ at this time, with more dramatic action and a greater interest for younger viewers by including well-known pop singers in guest roles.

The Crawford's trifecta of Homicide, Division 4 and Matlock Police continued to dominate in the early 1970s, but by 1975 the support of the networks was falling and all three series were axed within the space of around 12 months.
Crawfords responded with Matlock Police, which unlike its predecessors would focus on drama in the fictional country town of Matlock.
However, Melbourne-based production company Crawford Productions, headed by Hector Crawford and his sister Dorothy, who had been producing radio programs since 1945, had long campaigned to get a locally produced series on television.

 Aussie Soap Archive: Cop Shop
The Crawford's police dramas Homicide, Division 4 and Matlock Police had died out in quick succession in the mid-1970s while Australia's three major soap opera successes of the period, Bellbird, Number 96 and The Box, all ended in late 1977.
Though ostensibly a police drama this show differed from earlier Crawford's cop shows in foregrounding young policewomen, personal storylines concerning station personnel and their families, and comedy.
Cop Shop was produced by Crawford Productions from November 1977 and proved a successful blend of police drama and soap opera.

 B Dazzler 1
At this time, Crawford Productions three police series (Homicide, Division 4 and Matlock Police) had all been axed in quick succession, and there was (and still is) strong suspicion within the industry that the axing was a deliberate manoeuvre by the three networks acting in collusion.
The aim was to severely limit the viability of Crawford Productions and, by extension, severely inhibit the viability of Australian drama production and therefore weaken the case for Australian content regulations.
The series was produced by Marie Trevor, the pilot being produced by Henry Crawford, and Directors of the series were Marie Trevor and John Jacob, the pilot being directed by Marie Trevor and Ian Crawford.
