Matt Salinger was well-liked among his peers and the junior officers of the Hood.

Salinger testified in court in 1986 that he continues to write and he's told a couple reporters who have barged in on him that he continues to write.
Salinger was strange before the publication of The Catcher in the Rye but his reclusiveness and odd behavior took a dramatic upswing during its publication.
Salinger agreed to allow his last story from the New Yorker, Hapworth 16, 1924 to be published by Orchises Press of Virginia but when it will be out is anybody's guess.

Santa Monica Mirror: On The Stage: A Very Fresh Look At Matt & Ben
In Matt and Ben, Matt is uptight, controlling and goal-oriented, while Ben is laid back, not-so-bright and spends his free time “chillaxing”—a hybrid of chilling and relaxing which Ben, linguistic pioneer that he is, has introduced into the lexicon.
Using Salinger and Catcher in the play is an interesting touch, and even though Matt and Ben is anything but subtle, there is the subtle irony that the two are trying to “adapt” a book by an author whose career, in an odd way, parallels their own.
It may be unfair, or even blasphemous, to compare Salinger with Matt and Ben, but when the patriarch of one-hit-wonders comes and visits Affleck in a pseudo-dream sequence to offer him advice, it is hard not to draw the comparison.

Known for being a bit of a lecher, Salinger is most-definitely a ladies man. Though he claims to be strongly influenced by Buddhism, a religion that scorns greed and desire, Salinger has been married three times and has pursued countless young women for sex.
Matt Salinger, an actor who has appeared in many movies and TV shows including "Revenge of the Nerds" and "Picket Fences", thinks of him as a good father.
Supposedly Salinger's father used to hold him and his sister by the waists in the water and tell them to look for "bananafish." In the story, Seymour yells at his wife for not learning German in order to read a book he had given her as a gift.

Biography for J.D. Salinger   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Salinger was the son of a Jewish father and a Christian mother, and, like Holden Caulfield, the hero of "The Catcher in the Rye", he grew up in New York City, attending public schools and a military academy.
Major critical and popular recognition came with the publication of "The Catcher in the Rye", whose central character, a sensitive, rebellious adolescent, relates in authentic teenage idiom his flight from the "phony" adult world, his search for innocence and truth, and his final collapse on a psychiatrist's couch.
The reclusive habits of Salinger in his later years made his personal life a matter of speculation among devotees, while his small literary output was a subject of controversy among critics.

Salinger was happy with the notices but, at the same time, realized that comments like "punches you in the gut" were not necessarily helping.
Evidently, Salinger's enthusiasm has to do with the lessons he learned from Gien; he describes her piece as "a work of love and passion." It has become a "touchstone" for him, and he sees it as a reminder of "how important it is to have total belief in something.

Salinger came across Pamela Gien's play, a coming-of-age monologue about her family's ragged survival in South Africa, while scouting material for New Moon Productions, his eight-year-old film company.

Holden Caulfield, the antihero of J.D. Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye, rails at length about how actors are horrible phonies, but maybe he would have felt differently had he foreseen the day when his creator's son, Matt Salinger, would appear in a comedy boasting guest appearances from Bobby Unser, Susan Anton, and Eric Roberts.
Salinger is not one of those executives, but he is a "so-called yuppie" agent who specializes in buying the TV-movie rights to the lives of interesting people.
Like any successful agent, Salinger is more than willing to risk his own life when a Susan Anton TV-movie deal hangs in the balance, and with his assistance, Pacula escapes from her kidnappers—but not before signing an "unprecedented" half-million-dollar deal for the rights to her story.

The image of Matt Salinger tromping around in his three-colour stars-and-striper suit is frequently laughable - the film fails to understand that the 1990s comic-book adaptions only succeeded by creating a world in which characters in the costumes could believably live.
The most successful parts of the film are those showing America's bewilderment at the modern day - where the images of a camera labeled 'Made in Japan' and a German-made car effectively capture the confusion of a man from WWII waking up after forty years.
