Mattancherry Palace (Dutch Palace) — Built by Portuguese in 1557 and renovated by the Dutch in 1663, this palace depicts scenes from the epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata, and some of the Puranic Hindu legends.
The palace complex consists of 49 buildings in the traditional architectural style of Kerala and is surrounded by 52 acres of terraced land with a Deer Park.
The Paliam Palace, abode of the Paliath Achans, hereditary Prime Ministers to the erstwhile Maharajas of Kochi, represents the architectural splendour of Kerala.

Although not an opulent building by any stretch of imagination, the Mattancherry Palace has a quaint charm all its own- and surprisingly enough for those who may not be too familiar with the colonial history of this part of India, it is (at least in part) to be credited to the Dutch.
The exterior of the Mattancherry Palace is fairly unornamented; stark white walls, sloping brown roofs and trees form the picture.
But the pièce de resistance of Mattancherry Palace is not its ceilings: it is instead, a series of beautifully-executed and well-preserved murals decorating the walls of the rooms.
