Matte World specializes in digital matte painting and realistic computer-generated 3-D environments for feature films.
We are now seeing the matte painting shots that created this interior, but I'm not going to point them out to you until after the clip is finished.
For those of you unfamiliar with matte paintings, they are, in simple terms, paintings of environments on glass that are combined with the filmed actors to complete scenes that don't really exist.

 Ron Crabb Matte Painting
Matte Painting is the art of creating scenes for film or video that would otherwise be too expensive to build as a set or would indeed be outright impossible, (panoramic historical, science fiction and surreal scenes).
A matte painting can be as simple as adding snow to an existing shot, changing a scene from day to night, extending existing sets, or it can be an extremely complex, multi-planed, full frame matte painting.
Mattes used to be done by painting onto glass and then were photographically composited together with filmed elements.

This is the case with the 33 paintings in the dining room of the Florence Griswold House.
This glossiness helps to confirm what Dennis described: that the look of the paintings when they were new may have been glossier than is now seen and that a proportion of the matteness of unvarnished paintings may come from an accumulation of grime and from deterioration of their surfaces.
Many of Twachtman's paintings of this period are matte, but the exact degree of matteness intended by the artist is difficult to judge 100 years after they were painted.
