Matter of France - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Matter of France is a body of mythology and legend that springs from the Old French medieval literature of the chansons de geste.
It was contrasted by medieval French writers with the Matter of Britain, the legendary history of the British Isles; and the Matter of Rome, which represented the medieval poets' interpretations of Greek mythology and the history of classical antiquity.
Originally, the Matter of France contained tales of war and martial valour, being focused on the conflict between the Franks and Saracens or Moors during the period of Charles Martel and Charlemagne.

Matter of Britain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
Arthurian legend or the Matter of Britain is a name given collectively to the legends that concern the Celtic and legendary history of the British Isles, centering around King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table.
The name distinguishes and relates the Matter of Britain from the mythological themes taken from classical antiquity, the "matter of Rome", and the tales of the paladins of Charlemagne and their wars with the Moors and Saracens, which constituted the "matter of France".
While Arthur is the chief subject of the Matter of Britain, other lesser-known legendary history of the British Isles, including Brutus of Britain, Old King Cole, King Lear, and Gogmagog is also included in the subjects covered by the Matter of Britain: see King of the Britons.

Rome challenges as unreasonable the agency's evaluation of its technical proposal under each of the solicitation's stated evaluation factors and the evaluation of the awardee's proposal under the past performance factor.
Rome does not challenge the highly satisfactory management rating assigned to the BAE proposal for the five enhancements of value identified by the agency or the agency's determination of the value of these enhancements.
Rome's allegation that BAE has proposed on-call, off-site personnel appears to be based on a misinterpretation of the BAE proposal; the record confirms that the challenged personnel are working scheduled shifts on-site.

Matter of Rome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to the mediæval poet Jean Bodel, the Matter of Rome was the literary cycle made up of Greek and Roman mythology, together with episodes from the history of classical antiquity, focusing on military heroes like Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar.
Bodel's division of the literary cycles he knew best into the Matter of Britain, the Matter of France and the Matter of Rome calls to mind the concept of the Nine Worthies, made up of three champions of the Pagan, Jewish, and Christian faiths.
These were the subjects of a good deal of Old French literature.

 Search for dark matter continues
Last week's headlines that the University of Rome's Dark Matter Experiment (DAMA) has detected signs of illusive dark matter particles have spurred the determination of CWRU physicists involved in dark matter research to continue their quest to find them.
Physicists refer to dark matter particles as WIMPs (weakly interacting massive particles), because zillions of them can pass through the body each second, but we do not feel their presence because they do not interact with other particles.
They want to distinguish those signals from ones that the dark matter might leave as it passes through layers of detectors, which are placed on top of each other like a stack of hockey pucks.

Rome was founded in 1834 on the site of a Cherokee village and was incorporated as a city in 1847.

I was curious as to Rome’s policy regarding minor insurrections on the periphery.
After all, during the reign of Augustus, Rome already occupied so much territory and was serious enough force to be reckoned with (even prior to the installment of a "professional" military) that lesser regions or sects of people wouldn't even bother to put up a fight.
Aristocrats with something to gain from loyalty to Rome probably precipitated most of the changes, but it is hard to believe buildings like the Temple of Augustus could have been constructed without some record of dissent from the rest of the city.

History of literature   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
After the fall of Rome (in roughly 476), many of the literary approaches and styles invented by the Greeks and Romans fell out of favor in Europe.
In the millennium or so that intervened between Rome's fall and the Florentine Renaissance, medieval literature focused more and more on faith and faith-related matters, in part because the works written by the Greeks had not been preserved in Europe, and therefore there were few models of classical literature to learn from and move beyond.
Following Rome's fall, Islam's spread across Asia and Africa brought with it a desire to preserve and build upon the work of the Greeks, especially in literature.

The Might of Rome -- Magdalene Dynasty
The Jews demanded that Rome respect the religious laws of the land and that a king in the line of David be recognized.
No matter what one believes about the divinity of Jesus one must recognize that as a son of David he was considered a serious claimant to the throne and so a threat to Rome.
Women did not matter to Rome, they could not rule and they did not lead armies, and so the Magdalene was not considered a threat to the Pax Romana.

She recognises but one pastor and but one fold; and those who are not the sheep of the Pope of Rome, cannot be the sheep of Christ, and are held as being certainly cut off from all the blessings of grace now, and from all the hopes of eternal life hereafter.
God has not put in subjection to Rome either this world or the world to come; and the Pope and his Cardinals have just as much power to consign all outside their Church to eternal flames, as to forbid the sun to shine or the rain to fall on all who dare reject the infallibility.
But while it is a matter of supreme indifference to Protestants how many or how dreadful the curses which the pontiff may fulminate from his seat of presumed infallibility, it is a very serious matter for Rome herself.

With that church [of Rome], because of its superior origin, all the churches must agree, that is, all the faithful in the whole world, and it is in her that the faithful everywhere have maintained the apostolic tradition" (ibid., 3, 3, 2).

Roman Decadence, Rome and Romania, and the Emperors Who Weren't
If Rome fell because Elagabalus wanted to marry a gladiator, then the effect was delayed, extraordinarily, by longer than it took the United States to get from George Washington to Bill Clinton.
Thus Rome (or Ravenna) "fell" in 476 (or 480) less with a bang than with a whimper, and without noticeable institutional change or unaccustomed violence -- the fall of Constantinople in 1453 would be a far different matter.
The Roman citizens of the city of Rome were now distinct in no truly important way from the rest of the empire, though they still continued to receive subsidized food shipments and formal respects.
