Shikongo said that the WCCI's statements had violated the position that it had taken at the NCCI's annual general meeting in September, when a new constitution, which proposed the establishment of a single chamber system for Namibia, was unanimously endorsed.
Shikongo's reaction followed a recent article in a weekly newspaper which claimed that the WCCI was privately funded by its members while the NCCI was funded by foreign grants.
Shikongo said the WCCI could hardly claim to be representative of business in Windhoek since it hardly had any membership from the fl business community.

At the start of the two-day summit under the theme “National Summit: Electricity Amendment Bill” yesterday, Windhoek Mayor Matthew Shikongo said that the proposed amendments would have far-fetching effects on the affairs of regional and local authorities.
He added that electricity is the biggest revenue source of local authorities and the fact that this source of income is under imminent threat is an indication of the importance of the summit.
Mr Shikongo anticipates that if the sole right for the provision of electricity in their areas were taken away from local authorities it would result in a drastic fall in the level of local services.
