  Matza
Matza is not just one of several equally important other regulations of the festival of Passover: it is the main ceremonial (together with the reading of the Haggada), almost the symbol of the chief holiday of the Israelites.
The other explanation of the origin of the custom of eating of matza during Passover is found in the Haggada read during the Seder, the evening meal of the first (in diaspora the first two) evenings of the feast.
The word “matza” may mean “to find”; the corn of heaven was actually found on the ground.

Ohr Somayach :: Pesach :: The Matza Message
Despite this fascinating divergence of approaches all are united in viewing the eating of matza on Pesach as a reminder of the speed with which Jews were liberated from Egypt.
Matza reminded him too that the Mitzrayim (the Hebrew name for Egypt which literally translated means "straits") constrictions in his life have their purpose and there is a perfect Divine schedule for when his own Exodus will arrive.
Matza thus reminds us that as difficult as it may seem to overcome the natural forces of passion and pride represented by chametz, we must always remember that the Creator of those forces can suspend their power over us.

David Matza, who focused on juvenile delinquency, is most popularly known for his work with Gresham Sykes and their theory of neutralization.
Matza and Sykes further develop their views on delinquency as a result of a deviant sub-culture, which exposes the individual to crime and in turn teaches deviant behavior or subterranean values, which cause them to deviate from the norms of society.
Matza and Sykes concluded; however, that their study on the effect of subterranean values and leisure time did not explain several aspects of juvenile delinquency.

Perhaps nothing is praised so highly in the Passover Seder meal as the matza balls in the famed matza ball soup.

Matza balls, also known as knaidels or knaidelach, must be prepared before the soup is made.

In contrast, eating matza with the korban Pesach is presented in a secondary manner, while the primary mitzvah is to eat the meat of the korban: "And you shall eat the meat on this night, roasted on fire with MATZOT, together with bitter herbs..." (Shmot 12:8).
As 'matza' is the typical bread of a poor-man, or a slave, it would be most fitting to eat the meat together with this style of bread.
From this perspective, the matza that we eat for seven days, and the matza that is eaten with the korban Pesach both serve as powerful reminders that Bnei Yisrael must become active and faithful partners in any redemption process.

Thus pesach, matza and marror are necessary conditions in the fulfillment of the mitzva of sippur yetziat mitzrayim, and without them one does not fulfill one's requirement.
This notion that pesach, matza, and marror require an appreciation of their meaning and not just physical acts of eating, leads us to another approach with regard to the intrinsic connection between sippur yetziat mitzrayim and pesach, matza, and marror.
This view maintains that the primary mitzva is eating the matza; reciting the story of the exodus acts as a complement to the specific actions of eating.

Sykes and Matza's Techniques of Neutralization (Drift Theory)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
In the 1960s David Matza, and his associate Gresham Sykes, developed a different perspective on social control which explains why some delinquents drift in and out of delinquency.
The process by which a person moves from one extreme of behavior to another extreme is called drift, and this is the very foundation of his theory.
Sykes and Matza further argued that these neutralizations are available not just to delinquents but they can be found throughout society.

Sykes' and Matza's main point is that juvenile delinquents and other lawbreakers often advocate the same morality as law-abiding citizens, they simply apply that morality differently.
Sykes' and Matza's thesis goes for conscientious objectors engaging in civil disobedience as well as for other types of people incarcerated by the government.
By the way, if Sykes and Matza are correct, then everyone who espouses conventional norms runs the risk of engaging in deviant behavior, then justifying their deviant behavior with cliches.

Lots of the anxiety that juveniles feel about themselves and their actions seem to be reduced when they become adults, and form alternative memberships -- in other words, they drift out of delinquency as well action.
However, juvenile often seem to need 'neutralisation': Matza insists that this arises from genuine dilemmas about social norms which can appear to be all conditional, and is not just a deliberate strategy to avoid punishment.
The discussion of will again raises the point that delinquency is an option, it is not a tightly determined activity, it may be encouraged or discouraged, and so it is dangerous to make definitive statements about it.

Daily HALACHA by Rabbi Eli Mansour - Passover- Matza Shemura
Some people have the practice of eating only Matza Shemura throughout the entire festival of Pesach (as opposed to merely at the Seder), and this is a laudable practice.
Similarly, some have the practice to refrain from dipping Matza in liquid on Pesach, out of concern that a part of the Matza may not have been completely baked, and contact with water would cause that part of the Matza to become Chametz.
Summary: Optimally, one should use specifically hand-baked Matza Shemura on the first two nights of Pesach; one who used machine-made Matza or Matza that is not Shemura has nevertheless fulfilled his obligation.
