Maupin is a small community in the central part of the state, located approximately 40 miles south of The Dalles and 40 miles north of Madras.
Maupin is historically located on the Barlow Trail, the choice many early pioneers opted for when they arrived at The Dalles, the physical end of the Oregon Trail.
Maupin was named for Harry Maupin who operated a ferry across the Deschutes for the pioneers and their families for a small charge.
