Lois Maureen Stapleton (June 21, 1925 – March 13, 2006) was an American actress in film, theater and television who won an Academy Award, an Emmy Award and two Tony Awards and was elected to the American Theatre Hall of Fame.
She was not related to actress Jean Stapleton.
A heavy smoker, Maureen Stapleton died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at her home in Lenox, Massachusetts, aged 80.

Lois Maureen Stapleton was born June 21, 1925, in Troy, N.Y. Her father, an abusive alcoholic, left the family, and she sought comfort in the local movie house, hoping an acting career would transform her into an ethereal beauty like Jean Harlow.
