ASA LEWIS MAXON, JR., was born in Rensselaer county, New York, May 5, 1802; lived in Madison and Jefferson counties between 1825 and 1853; came to section 27, Walworth, and bought a large farm.
He was seven times a member of the county board and was chosen assemblyman for 1872 over Maurice L. He had five children.

The famous Major Robert Rogers of the Old French War, later known as the French and Indian War, was born in Methuen Nov. 7, 1731, the son of James and Mary Rogers, and baptized Nov. 14 by the Reverend Christopher Sargent, first town minister.
The Rogers exploits are extensively described in "Northwest Passage" by Kenneth Roberts, and very greatly aided the preservation of the English colonies in America.
Maurice Martino gave the town historical committee the old church pulpit.

Captain James Rogers also served in Gallipoli, where he was wounded on the 4th August 1915, returning to Australia, as an invalid, on 10th June 1916.
Sergeant Rogers, armed with a Thompson machine-gun, forced his way through the barbed wire, ran across a minefield and accounted for two of the enemy posts.
Lieutenant Rogers, Private John McDougall, of the same regiment and Lieutenant Lenon, of the 67th Foot Regiment, showed conspicuous gallantry by swimming across the ditches and entering the North Taku Fort, through an embrasure **, during the assault on the fort.

Sergeant M A W Rogers won the Victoria Cross for his actions at Anzio (Italy) on June 3rd 1944 when he commanded the Carrier Platoon of the 2nd Battalion The Wiltshire Regiment.
A citation and photograph together with an artist’s impression of the scene of battle hangs on the reception wall of Kennet House describing the event which concluded with him being shot and killed at point blank range after having penetrated 30 yards inside the enemy defences.
