  David George Kendall - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David George Kendall (born 15 January 1918) is a British statistician, who has spent much of his academic life in the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
Kendall was born in Ripon, North Yorkshire, and was educated at Ripon Grammar School before attending Queen's College, Oxford, graduating in 1943.
A daughter is Bridget Kendall, a BBC news correspondent.

The statistic described here is also known as Kendall's τ, which is different from Spearman's rank correlation coefficient.
We see that there is some correlation between the two rankings but the correlation is far from perfect, and we would like some way of objectively measuring the degree of correspondence.

Maurice Kendall's father, John Roughton Kendall, was an engineering worker who was brought up in Kettering, while his mother was Georgina Brewer who came from Hertfordshire.
Yule remembered his meeting with Kendall and after discussions joint authorship of a new edition was agreed, the work being undertaken in 1937.
There are many more major texts by Kendall and their importance and popularity is seen by the number of editions which have appeared over the years and continue to appear many years after his death.

If this is just Maurice and Barry, they seem capable of doing everything required.
The proposed release date slipped from August 1996 to October 1996 to January 1997, until finally it was released in March in UK, Europe and east Asia, and in May in the US, the latter being the same day as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
It was eventually finished and recorded in 2000, and released as a B side and bonus cut to the "This is where I came in" album.

 6/4/98: Where's Maurice?
I came across a record for "Crossed Swords" -- and somewhat amusing adaptation of Twain's "Prince and the Pauper" with a notable cast for many of the smaller parts (George C. Scott, Charlton Heston, Raquel Welch?!?).
The orchestral score was by Maurice Jarre, and it has some interesting segments.
It made me wonder about lesser-known Jarre scores which may not be readily available on CD.

 Using Python (and R) to calculate Rank Correlations
The two main correlations used for comparing such ranked data are known as the Spearman Rank Correlation (Spearman's ρ or Spearman's Rho) and Kendall's Tau (τ).
The notation I am using is from the 5th edition (published 1990) of "Rank Correlation Methods", by Maurice Kendall and Jean Dickinson Gibbons (ISBN 0-85264-305-5, first published in 1948).
To date, I have found two existing Python libraries with support for these correlations (Spearman and Kendall):
