 Telling God's Story
In this he opposes theologians such as Frank Kermode, who says that to find any such story is in principle impossible, and Maurice Wiles, who holds that the choice of any particular story is bound to be arbitrary.
The narrativists insist that the story of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ provides the necessary and sufficient focus for the scriptural story of God.
The technique used for bringing other narratives into this focus is scriptures own device, typology, by which the Old Testament tales are read as prefiguring the story of Jesus, and the Church's own story is told according to the Christ-pattern.

Telegraph News The Rev Professor Maurice Wiles
The Rev Professor Maurice Wiles, who died on Friday aged 81, was Regius Professor of Divinity and a Canon of Christ Church, Oxford, from 1970 to 1991; he was previously Professor of Christian Doctrine at King's College, London, and Dean of Clare College, Cambridge.
To university colleagues, Wiles was a figure of faith; but to his colleagues in the Church he was a figure of doubt, and this he regarded as perfectly proper for a Professor of Divinity.
This led him to raise the question, in a contribution to a highly controversial volume of essays, The Myth of God Incarnate (1977), of whether or not the concept of incarnation is sufficiently intelligible to remain in use.
