 Genghis Khan Biography
Genghis Khan, more correctly transliterated "Chinggis Khan", (pinyin: cheng1 ji1 si1 kang1) (about 1165 - 1227) was a Mongolian khan, i.e., emperor, and military leader who unified the Mongolian tribes and then founded a Mongol empire by conquering much of China, Asia and Eastern Europe.
Genghis was originally born by the name of Temüjin (鐵木真 TieMuZhen in Chinese) sometime between 1162 and 1167, the first son of Yes?ei, a tribal chief of the Kiyad (singular: Kiyan).
On his deathbed in 1227, Genghis Khan outlined to his youngest son, Tului, the plans that later would be used by his successors to complete the destruction of the Jin empire.

Genghis preferred to offer opponents the chance to submit to his rule without a fight, but was merciless if he encountered any resistance: in such cases he would mercilessly attack the population of the resisting cities leaving engineers, submitted troops, artists, spies and human shields to survive.
Genghis Khan assigned a symbolic meaning to the word Mongol and saying to people that he or she is now a Mongol after noteworthy achievement irrespective of ethnicity.

Genghis Khan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Genghis' father, Yesugei, khan of the Borjigin and nephew to Ambaghai and Qutula Khan, emerged as the head of the ruling clan of the Mongols, but this position was contested by the rival Tayichi’ud clan, who descended directly from Ambaghai.
Genghis Khan refused to divide his troops into different units based on ethnicity, instead he mixed tribesmen from conquered groups, like the Tatars and Keraits, which fostered a sense of unity and loyalty by reducing the effects of the old tribal affiliations and preventing any one unit from developing a separate ethnic or national character.
Genghis Khan was by and large tolerant of the multiple religions and there is no cases of him or the Mongols engaging in religious war against people he encountered during the conquests as long as they were obedient.
