Taillieu: I believe that in the Auditor's report it was indicated that the Agassiz School Division had overstated enrolment and was granted close to $500,000.
Taillieu: I would have to agree there were some significant differences when one school division was required to pay back the money and one was not.
Taillieu: Yes, I understand the whole reasoning behind doing the Auditor's report is to look at monies that may have gone somewhere they should not have and, perhaps, should be recoverable, which is what we are seeing in Morris-Macdonald.

Tory opposition critic Mavis Taillieu said that during the devolution process, government procedure was to summarize and close out existing case files then pass the condensed information on to designated CFS offices with the expectation that the workers would re-open the files.
Taillieu believes that the Sinclair file was one of potentially many that were never re-opened.
Taillieu’s fear is that like Sinclair’s file, other children may be living without protection.

Family Services Critic Mavis Taillieu is asking for the Doer government to provide a long term, detailed plan for the $40 million they announced for the Manitoba Developmental Centre (MDC).
Taillieu called on the Doer government to demonstrate that this is the best use of money, and to outline their long-term strategy for persons with disabilities.
The Doer government didn’t consult with the organizations working within the community, to see if this would be the best use of $40 million within the disabled community.

Morris MLA Mavis Taillieu is calling on the Doer government to address outstanding questions respecting the Red River Floodway to help alleviate concerns of residents living south and north of the floodway.
Taillieu made the comments after recently questioning Conservation Minister Steve Ashton in the Legislature about issues related to the operation and development of the Red River Floodway.
She has asked the Minister to follow through on his government’s promise to provide a timeline for the introduction of legislative provisions for compensation for flooding over and above natural levels.

It is clear that this Minister believes institutions are an acceptable way for people to live,” said Taillieu.
Taillieu is looking for a greater commitment from Doer and his NDP government to move away from the institutionalization of persons with disabilities, and towards increased community living settings.

Even those opposed to a leadership change will come to realize choosing a new leader will give the party at least a fighting chance to win government in five to six years.
And they will thank Tory MLAs such as Mavis Taillieu who had the guts to put the leadership review question on the table, rather than watch the party sleep-walk through the next eight to 12 years -- something the Tories have been doing for the past five years.
The good news for the Tories is they're much better positioned to attract quality candidates for the top job than they were five years ago.

The Headingley Headliner started its life as a flyer sent out by the Phoenix Community Club nine times a year.Mavis Taillieu took over this volunteer job in 1992 from Jill Ruth.
Mavis and three other volunteers (Karen Glavin,Gloria Wohlers and Bonnie Leullier)then started publishing monthly.There was no charge for the newsletter as advertising covered costs,and it was produced on Mrs.Taillieu ’s personal computer.
