Max and Doug Bentley played on a line with Mush March in the early 1940s and with Bill Thoms in 1943 when Doug won the scoring title and Max the Lady Byng Trophy.

The trading or "selling off" of Max Bentley was a big blow to the Hawks in '47.The early 50s were some brutal times for the Hawks and undoubtedly Tommy Ivan saved the franchise by rebuilding it from the ground up.
