A brief history of the Institute
The German Institute for Psychiatric Research is incorporated into the Max Planck Gesellschaft (Max Planck Society), the successor to the Kaiser Wilhelm Gesellschaft, but with the 1917 Foundation still being maintained.
The Basic Research Institute, headed by Hans Thoenen, moves to a new building in Martinsried, west of Munich, on the same campus as the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry.
The institutes are now two separate entities within the Max Planck Society
